Feeling full ... all the time

Hi Guys,

This is my first time posting. I am 10 days post-op RNY.

So I was moved to pureed food last Friday by my nutritionist (yay)

The only things I have tried so far is cottage cheese, an egg and just tried refried beans tonight (all in 1/4 cup servings). So far, everything seems to be sitting well, no vomiting, some slight nausea afterwards. I am doing the whole no drinking 15 minutes before and an hour after (I even set timers).

I usually start my pureed foods at lunch and it seems that once i eat, it feels like the food just sits there. I feel it in my chest and I feel it allllll day. It doesnt hurt, it just feels like being full, constantly. There have been a couple of time where I don't even finish my "meal" but still get this feeling.

Does anyone else have this issue?? Does anyone have any advice??

Thanks guys! I love this site it has helped me a ton.

People are used to drinking with meals, so wash everything down quickly and don't achieve the full feeling. There have been times when I don't drink for three hours after a meal and continue to feel full.

I think that's pretty common 10 days out. Your stomach is still healing/swollen so your portions will be very small and it doesn't take much to feel full. On the other hand, at 10 days out, if anything is causing you concern, always follow up with your doctor!

Your food intake may be too much. Just because it says 1/4 cup doesn't mean your ready for it. I was at 3 tablespoons for the first two months. Eat slow set your spoon down after every bite give the food a chance to move before taking the next bite as soon as you feel full stop. Remember that little bit of food should take 20-30 minutes to eat and do not eat any longer than 30 minutes. And as everyone has advised please check with your surgeon if it is causing a lot of concern and discomfort.

I have started to eat less. It was weird the first 2 days I was on pureed food. the 1/4 C seemed to be just fine but now it seems too much. So I am eating smaller portions. It's not causing me a ton of concern or much discomfort, certainly no pain so I will just bring it up at my 2 week post op appt on friday. Thank you for the reply
