Need reassurance - post-op diet?!

You asked this question before and we answered it. Yes eventually I can eat most things. Slight moderation maybe and portion size less. So you can eventually do anything except mass quantities. If you are only focused on these foods, I'm asking again are you ready for this life? Most of my wls friends went back to old habits and regained most or all. If staying focused is a concern. Don?t do this yet. I'm not trying to be a d here but unless you are ready to commit to change, you aren't really ready. Find the commitment now. Why are you doing this? Ask yourself. It's atool and not an autopilot cure.

I apologize if I did ask this before. I don't remember doing so. As I said, I had 10 years of success with the lap band and made judicious choices. The restriction and smaller portions worked for me. I'm not saying and didn't mean to imply that I want to eat anything and everything and will be wildly out of control. I was just hoping I will still be able, from time to time, to enjoy some of the foods I enjoy. And it sounds like I will. My motivations are resolution of diabetes, gastric reflux, fatty liver with weight loss being behind those in priority but still desired. I want to have a healthier and longer life, not shortened by diabetic complications like others in my family. I am resolute in my commitment. The questions you posed are important. Critical. And I appreciate them.

My bad. Maybe another guy poster recently with the same concern. That's what made me wonder and to be concerned. Yes for many we can eat most anything. But that comes with great responsibility as it's easy to slip back into your old life. As for fatty liver, mine went from stage 4 NASH with 6 month cancer monitoring to full regression or as my doc said with astonishment- cured. Apparently about 10 percent can full regenerate and I won that lottery. So yes fully worth it. Good luck.

Wow. That's amazing!! Advanced NASH is exactly my fear. I am so impressed by your success in both weight loss and this wonderful "NSV." Congratulations.

"No offense to anyone at all, but I'm thrown by how much attention to food and diet there still is every day. And by how little people are eating."

The strange thing is that while I measure my food now and record everything I eat (with an occasional day off), I actually think about food a lot less. The wonderful thing is that for the first time in my life, I feel in control of food instead of the other way around.

Pretty much all of the long-term vets here who have been successful in maintenance still weigh, measure, and log everything they eat. WLS is not a free pass to do as you please; maintaining a healthier weight requires a lot of hard work and attention.

"Food is fuel" is a good mindset to adopt after surgery. Yes, there can be pleasure in eating something you enjoy, but many of us had strong emotional ties to food that are/were probably unhealthy.
