New and looking for advice
i had a gastric sleeve about 10 years ago where I lost about 150 lbs and I just had a gastric bypass revision to combat heartburn/acid reflux. My surgery was only 10 days so I am still in the liquid phase and I feel horrible. I am extremely lathargic, depressed, constipated, and hungry.
I wonder if this is normal...
First of all, I'm sorry you're feeling so bad. At the risk of sounding like a Pollyanna, I suspect this is the worst of it, and you will start to feel a lot better in a few days. But it would be a good idea to check with your surgeon to make sure that your recovery is proceeding normally.
I have no experience with revision, but I just wanted to point out that constipation and "hunger" are very common after WLS, and both depression and lethargy are completely normal after any surgery. I put "hunger" in scare quotes because what you're feeling is almost certainly excess stomach acid rather than real hunger. I assume your surgeon has you on a PPI for stomach acid (you may have been on one already for the acid reflux), so that should start helping soon. Another thing that can help with the hunger is drinking lots of fluids.
As for the constipation, one thing I didn't realise until rather recently is that stool softeners and laxatives are fairly useless unless you drink plenty of fluid. (Another reason to focus on fluids!) Ever since I learned that, I've been able to manage my formerly chronic constipation simply by drinking an extra litre on days when things aren't moving.
I hope you feel better very soon.
