You are rocking this! And, I love the happiness evident in the water park pic.

Those babies are sooooo beautiful. I want a grand kid. I guess you had to have kids to have those. SOL

JB, You are so pretty in all the pictures but you glow now. Also, you are using an ax...an after action shot with an ax...you are amazing!!

my cousin is here so we did I drive out to my hometown yesterday afternoon, he is shocked by "there's nothing here" "everything is so far" "where are the trees" "the mountains are beautiful, are they really that far". Today we're heading up to Estes Park, Rocky Mountain National Park and a tour of the Stanley hotel (inspiration behind The Shining).

He's a high protein, low carb eater and fellow coffee fiend so menu should be on point even though relatively unplanned.

coffee and tea, cottage cheese, I will probably get a bun less burger at some point and green Chile since he needs to try some.

There was a brief (about a month) where I decided I should be a brunette. (Spoiler - I look like a zombie as a brunette). During that month, I renewed my passport. It's been a long 9 years with that photo. My last trip, they asked for a second form of ID. So here's my before after passport photo, two 2016 photos with my sister and bestie and then the 2019 versions of same! (I'm posting from my phone so sorry if the pix are ginormous)

Have a fantastic Friday and weekend!

That was the scariest book I ever read. I picked it up at a Von's grocery store check-in stand 40+ years ago, naively thinking "hmmm...I haven't read a scary book in a long time". I took the groceries home and put them away, then settled down with a cup of coffee to read in my favorite spot (a fabulous, deep sapphire mohair velvet chair. Incredibly heavy, it was a huge art deco piece which had originally belonged to a member of glitzy 1920's Hollywood elite (one of the Warner Brothers)). If that chair could have talked!

It was a sunny afternoon, as innocent and unsuspecting a day as could be, and I simply wasn't expecting to be almost frightened to death. The story was compelling, and I kept on reading all afternoon and into the evening as the light faded.

My ex and I went to bed. He rolled over and went to sleep, but I was hideously stuck to the storyline, and couldn't detach even though I hated the level of fear I was experiencing. I would come to chapters which I was utterly unable to read, because the titles had been foreshadowed, and scared me past all peace. I could barely stand to touch the page edges, and I turned the pages as fast as I could, avoiding actually reading even one word. I was way over my personal capacity for fear and had reached critical mass.

By 3 or 4 a.m., I desperately had to visit the bathroom, but there was no way in h*ll I was going to get out of bed: anything could be lurking in the hallway, or the bathroom, or even lying in wait under my bed! Finally, dawn came, but I refused to take the chance to move until the sun was bright and high. I had finished the book. I dressed and picked it up by the corner of it's cover with my thumb and forefinger, my arm fully extended to the side (it was poison, you see), and carried it down and out to a dumpster. I have always respected books and have never believed in trashing them, but I made an exception for that one: no unsuspecting human should ever come into contact with such a terrifying story ever again.

Much later, my SIL recounted a terrifying experience she had back in the 70's or early 80's, in a gorgeous old country home she and her ex rented in Haddam or East Haddam, CT. It was, as they quickly discovered, haunted, evil, and acutely, actively dangerous, and they felt lucky to have escaped with their lives. My SIL is a very grounded, bright, and happy person, truly not in the least superstitious.

Cara, I love this story! Not that you were terrified but how much you brought that to life for me -- you really write so vividly, you could give SK a run!!

No wonder they asked for a second ID. You are a red head through and through. As a brunette, I always loved girls who are redheads and never understood when they wanted to go dark! Why oh why you would change that beautiful color?

I definitely stay in the shades of red now and only vary the shade! Every time I would look at the old passport I would ask myself why did I think that was going to work, lol
