2 months post op and severe anxiety, please help.
My experience is with depression rather than anxiety, but perhaps some of the techniques I use will help you. These techniques aren't cures, of course, but they can help me get through a temporary rough patch.
Meditation, as others have suggested. The simplest technique is to pay attention to your breath. Don't try to change your breath, just notice it. One common misconception is that you're supposed to be able to turn off your thoughts when you meditate. That ain't gonna happen. Instead, simply notice your thoughts as they arise, without reacting to them. Even just 30 seconds of meditation can help.
Distraction. This only works for a short time, but it has helped me get through some bad evenings. I migh****ch a comedy show, or even a drama, any activity that will distract me from my own thoughts for a while.
Wallowing in misery. Yeah, that sounds odd, but here's what I mean by it. I climb under the duvet and simply feel all the bad feelings for a while, and feel sorry for myself. Eventually I get bored and want to do something else.
Spend time in nature. There seems to be something primitive in us that responds to nature.
Those all sound like wonderful ideas. I will definitely give them a try. What I keep hearing is to surrender to the bad feelings and let them do their thing and to just know that it will pass and that no real harm will come to me. It's easier said than done, for sure, but I will try some of these tactics and see what works. I appreciate your time and willingness to share. Thank you.
Life is the most difficult exam. Many people fail because they try to copy others, not realizing that everyone has a different question paper.
Hormone dumping is a real thing. I weighed 370 and rapid weight loss freed those hormones right out of those fat cells. I felt so restless.
What helped was remembering this side effect meant I was losing weight!
I would skip the vitamin pill for now and really focus on fluid and protein. Get that down before you move on.
Posting helps too.
I use to take Lexapro, but it stopped working well for my anxiety. Doc prescribed Cymbalta and that is working well for me. On top of that, I know i can use natural supplements like L-Tryptophan, or L-Teanine and that helps very fast. It is more calming for me, relaxing. For some people 5-,Http works better than L-Tryptophan, but for me it's not the case. I only take the L-TRYPTOPHAN (or 5Http) once in a while, because taking that and an SSRI (Cymbalta) is not recommended. The L-Teanine is supposed to be much safer.
Some people have issues absorbing antidepressants post op RNY. I had to increase my Cymbalta to 60 mg, because 30 was not working effectively for me.
Not sure when you started Zoloft, but I would talk to a doc to see if he can recommend something else that may help during the 4-6 weeks as the Zoloft gets into your system. Sometimes they can prescribe something that can work for acute anxiety.
