5 days post-op and hungry
I have never experienced hunger after surgery, but I believe that is because of completely giving up sugar, flour, rice, corn, cereal, potatoes and anything made with those ingredients.
Before I eat a meal, I drink a lot of water. I do use full fat dairy products, and eat high protein meals. If you experience hunger, see if you have consumed any of the high carb products that trigger hunger after weight loss surgery. You can live very well on protein shakes, meat, and a small amount of leafy vegetables.
Even if you were given a diet that includes things like potatoes and cereal, those things will cause hunger.
Real life begins where your comfort zone ends
Oh I was totally RAVENOUS just days post op .. maybe because of excess food withdrawals ?
Heres the thing to remember - your insides are STILL HEALING till 8 weeks out ... ( even then they're sensitive but you'll feel your pouch get a lol more flexible ) so don't give into the temptation to eat " real food " early PLEASE . It's very dangerous and has landed many post ops back in the hospital with very serious and hard to fix complications .
Some even died .
You had MAJOR surgery . How I dealt with it was I called my surgeons office . They said the hunger was a sign I'd healed faster than expected and they gave me permission to make a faster transition to purées and mushy foods . I lived on refried beans w fat free melted cheese slices and fat free cottage cheese after that :) hugs good luck ....
Come on here when U get hungry frustrated or bored ... the chat room was such great support for me . ( unfortunately it no longer exists ) but you can still learn a lot and engage with experienced and caring fellow travelers here. Welcome to the losers bench !

5 days post op, what stage are you on food wise? I don't think your nerves will have healed from the surgery yet so I'm not sure you are getting true "hunger" cues. 5 days out I was still only liquid, but all plans seems to be different!
Stay on top of your hydration and if you're really concerned, call your medical team with questions.

Did your doctor give you an acid-reducer like Prilosec? Sometimes acid can mimic hunger, so that may be part of what's going on.
