I am at 5 week post op. How long does it take to be able to drink and eat without it hurting your stomachs.

What are you eating? How fast? How big are your bites?

If you take tiny bites, like pencil eraser size, and set your fork down between each bite to help you go slowly, you shouldn't have any pain.

Eating soft foods. Maybe I a eating to fast. I take small bits and chew each bit until it's almost desolated. Drinking I sip but it still hurts my stomach at time. Will I be able to drink normal again.

Has your medical team given you any guidance? I don't remember having any pain drinking at that time post op.

How small is a "small" bite? My team told me to take bites that are the size of a grain of rice. TINY little bites!

If you're having trouble with liquids, have you tried different temperatures? Ice cold vs room temp vs warm makes a difference to some people.

If you're still in pain this far out, I would suggest calling your surgeon to check in.

Where exactly are you feeling the pain? Sometimes I feel tightness in my esophagus from eating or drinking too quickly or taking big bites, but stomach pain does not sound normal. I'd call your doc.

It's not like a stomach ache. I just feel the food hit my stomach hard at time. If I take to big of a drink it does the same. I think it just eating to fast and drink to much at a tome. I am working on taking small bites and slow down. I just miss drinking water like I use to do. When I am thirsty I want big drink of water but I have to sip and don't feel like I get enough.

i was a big coffee drinker before surgery and note I barely drink it. It doesn't taste the same.

I can slam water like I did pre-surgery. I can't say everyone can after, but I can drink my workout liquid very rapidly. I was worried about that and I'm happy I can. That way between sets or while on my bike I can drin****asionally vs. constantly. So there is hope. Good luck

I should add that it took about 9 months before I felt comfortable doing this, likely due to healing. Give it time.

10 years out here. There are still times that eating and drinking hurt my stomach. Typically it's when I take larger bites, don't chew well or drink too much at a time.

I wish I could tell you eventually it all goes away, but it never does for some people. For me, I will always need to chew well, take smaller bites and drink slowly.

Let it begin with me.

They say it takes a full eight weeks for your insides to heal and then the tummy relaxes a bit . I took like twenty minutes to eat a cup of purée in the beginning ... made sure to wait between drinking and eating . Walking helps too . ((()))) hope U feel better soon !
