Help- Disulfiram or Antabuse
This is horrifying, but has anyone taken Disulfiram or Antabuse? I've heard it passes right through without doing anything.

I would suggest talking to your surgeon or a pharmacist about how this medication works after RNY.

I personally didn't know what Disculfiram was so I had to google it, as per Google its used to treat Alcoholism.
Are you asking for yourself or someone else? If for yourself I just wanted to say I am sorry you are going through this and I hope you get the proper support you need.
According to google the side effects of this drug are horrible. I hope you can get well and I wish you the best to conquer this addiction.
According to Google:
Disulfiram is used to treat chronic alcoholism. It causes unpleasant effects when even small amounts of alcohol are consumed. These effects include flushing of the face, headache, nausea, vomiting, chest pain, weakness, blurred vision, mental confusion, sweating, choking, breathing difficulty, and anxiety.

Ms Kitty - Maybe I have some GOOD news for you! One of my besties is nearly 10 years post RNY. When she is working her AA program, NOT drinking, and actually TAKING her Antabuse, and other meds, in the way they are PRESCRIBED, to be taken, she does VERY well. The meds are well absorbed, apparently, and do what they are meant to do...
When L does what she is NOT supposed to DO...AKA drink alcohol, while taking Antabuse, she gets sick as anyone I've ever seen - and I've been a nurse for over 40 years...
Hope that answers at least part of your question. It's not my FIRST hand account, as I have not ingested the medication MYSELF, but I have spent COUNTLESS hours/months/years, with L, and others, in detox, cycling, etc
Godspeed, with this terrible disease
