What's on your Thursday Menu, RNYers?
Your revision intrigues me to find out what kind of complication you had that you are changing to a RNY? Your not obligated to share obviously but when people ask me I always tell them to do the VSG if they can. I always thought it was the less invasive of the 2 surgeries and quicker healing time.

"Less invasive" is a misnomer. VSG permanently removes your stomach and cannot be reversed, so even though RNY re-arranges things it's not quite as permanent as a sleeve. VSG is apparently an easier surgery, and there are fewer complications in the immediate post-op period, so some folks do try to pu**** as the "better" option.
I have had serious GERD for the past two years, and PPIs don't help. The current best estimate that I can find is that 10 - 20% of VSG patients who never had GERD will develop it after surgery, and RNY is really the only good way to treat it. Long-term use of PPIs can cause serious health issues, and untreated GERD can lead to esophageal cancer.
On top of that, my sleeve has stretched out considerably, as shown on an upper GI. My surgeon says it's not due to anything I've done (apparently he could tell by the shape on the imaging) but suspects some sort of connective tissue disorder.

Thank you for sharing. I also went from a BSG to an RNY but within 8 days so I'm a RNY with no reversal options as well. You'll be in my prayers for a quick recovery.
Brightest blessings

Did you have gerd prior to the last two years? Sudden onset? I am asking as I have been noticing within the last few months that I will have bouts of heartburn/acid indigestion that will come and go. I never had issues prior, am trying to determine if it is something in my routine.....and no bouts in the last couple of weeks.
Just curious on how many years out you are, I will be 5 years post op in November, so am a little nervous.

I am 5.5 years out from my VSG. The acid started up maybe a year or two ago, so definitely late-onset. I didn't even have any reflux problems when I was pregnant, so this is definitely new!

3 months ago I had a reflux issue in the middle of the night that was just awful, I attributed the instance to eating late, but, it made me rethink and realize that I have had minor instances of heartburn and acid. The last two weeks have been good, and my flare ups were never daily. I will just monitor and hope it does not progress.
Thank you and good luck with your revision! Glad you will be feeling relief soon!

Good afternoon.
Not feeling great today. Totally exhausted. Going to try and ride my bike here in an hour or so though.
It?s my mom?s b-day today so she got Thai food. This weekend we are doing a ?party? with bbq. I?m likely making a chess pie or lemon meringue. Have to figure out something to cook for me! Dense proteins are still rather difficult.
