Pre-op weight loss goals... did you hit it?

I had my consult on 5/25/19. At that time, the physician said he wanted me to lose 40lbs before surgery. (I am self pay - so no program before was needed.)

I went back for a 2nd visit on 6/24/19, and at that time he said he felt I was doing a good enough job to go ahead and schedule. But he said he was a name of his word -- if I came in on surgery day and had lost 39.5lbs, he would reschedule the surgery. He wants to make sure "I stick to my part of the deal."

My surgery is scheduled for 8/15/19 and I am so nervous that I am not going to make it. For the most part I have stuck to the diet really well, with few "mess ups". I just got over a 2 week stall and thought I was going to freak out over it because I have such a tight timeline.

Did anyone else have issues with the pre-op loss, goals, etc before surgery?

My surgeon cancels if the pre-op goal is not reached. Usually people are at his goal when they come back after being postponed. How much more do you have to lose by 8/15?

Ya know it kinda ticks me off that they do that. I had a problem with the physician I was using telling me I had to lose XX amount of weight before he would even okay me to see the Bariatric team. If I could have lost the weight on my own then why would I need them ? I also was a smoker which made it all the more difficult. I switched Drs. and she signed the paper on my first visit !!! I quit smoking that day and put on 14lbs over the course of 6 months. I lost those 14 lbs on the 2 week liquid diet and have gone on to lose another 131 lbs . Some of those Drs. like playing god as far as I am concerned. If I were self pay I would have gone to Mexico !

Sorry for the rant it still aggravates me. I do get why some people may need help prior to surgery but to put all of us in the same boat is ridiculous.

My doctor encouraged me to loss weight pre-op and said the more I lost the shorter my liquid diet would be before hand. At the weight I was at it was going to be 4 weeks, I lost and only had to do 2 weeks. But I had the DS and the need the liver to shrink so.... Good luck! I know it's hard and it will be worth it!

Mine gave me a goal range and then the RD and Bari Nurse kept me working to it. He didn't do any type of liquid liver shrinking diet pre op so took it pretty serious as a demonstration that I could change habits and meet goals. Surgery day, I hit the top end of the range (thank goodness for the 24 hour pre anesthesia liquid only requirements).
