G'morning Menu family,
JB - which job did you go for? Yay for vacation time, you so deserve it.
I had a great weekend. First a PSA from Costco. Have you guys tried the egg bites they sell at Costco? It's a lot like the Starbucks Sous Vide, but in my opinion actually better. The cals are a little high (300) but the protein to carb ratio is great. I'll be having them for lunch.
On Sun I acted like a skinny person. Let me explain. In the past if I worked out in the morning I was fine for the rest of the day. I felt justified in not doing anything physical. But I had seen how DH is during weekend. He goes out surfing early in the morning, then comes back and goes skateboarding with DS and then they do an afternoon session of surfing. He doesn't consider them workouts, he does them because he likes doing them.
So back to me. I do Zumba on Sun mornings (it's my 1 fun workout a week). I came home and saw Luna looking all depressed because she didn't get morning walk - DH had left early for surf. So I decide to do our 4 mile hike with her and we jog some of the hills. Then I come back home, DH returns and tells me conditions are perfect for SUP. Gulp! OK, here we go. I did mention we have sharks in the water, right? I consider putting a full wetsuit which took me about 1/2 hr a workout. It's like having a spanx from neck to your toes. See pic.
So we get in the water and I'm getting the hang of it until I hear another SUP person saying like there is nothing abnormal, did you guys see the shark right there? Where? It was just back there! How long? It must have been an 11 footer! How do you know? My board is 11 foot and he was as long as my board. I'm thinking I don't wanna be shark bait, I don't wanna be shark bait. I didn't get skinny to be shark bait. GET ME OUT OF HERE!! But on the outside I'm smiling and following DH praying my kids won't be motherless. The trip was eventless if you don't count I fell in the water in the middle of kelps and kinda freaked out but we didn't see the shark. When we got out in the parking lot everybody was talking about the sharks (plural) like they are talking about kittens. Comparing lengths!! Who saw how big. They are all crazy!!
QOTD:In short, yesterday I went to Zumba, I hiked/jogged for 4 miles, I put a wetsuit on (I told you I consider that a workout), I went SUPing with DH AND I didn't panic about the shark nearby.
My meals for the day:
- Coffee, coffee, and more coffee
- Costco Egg bite
- Chicken skewers (I'll be eating them for the foreseeable future, I have bought so many of them at Costco)
- Yogurt or parm cheese
Have a great sharkless Monday!

Damn! The last time I was in a wetsuit I was near my high weight for a white water rafting trip in Maine. I wanted to die. DIE. ...when I saw myself in it.
Yes I love the Costco egg bites. I think they are really tasty and even more filling than the Starbucks ones! They are great for this new Keto plan--the stats are just right :)
I also loved those skewers, but I totally overdid it on those about a year ago and they are just not appetizing to me anymore. Why must Costco sizes be so big, when no one in my house eats the same food as me...!?

My first run-in with a wet suit was when I was around 200lbs, I got it up to my knees and started hyperventilating. I felt so claustrophobic that I took it off right away and told DH I can never wear that contraption. That was about 18 years ago. Yesterday I wore DS's old suit. So that was a total NSV for me. And it was one of those with no back zipper, I had to put my legs in through the neck hole. It took a lot of deep breathing to calm myself to get it on. And THEN, when I had to take it off and it was wet. Yuck! That was another workout I forgot about!
Sorry about my rambling for a wetsuit but it was one of those mental obstacles that I have finally conquered and I'm super proud of myself.

You look fabulous in that wesuit! I literally never went far into the water in Santa Barbara - I love the beach and being close to the water in so many ways, but the thought of the sharks out there was always with me. You are way braver than I am! Kudos too for all that fun exercise!
