What's on your Thursday Menu, RNYers?
Mornin' All!
Accountability wasn't fabulous yesterday but wasn't horrible, either. My weight is up a bit this morning, but that is almost certainly due to the sushi I had for dinner last night (soy sauce...). I'm going to try to eat at the low end of my range today - and drink lots of fluids!
I went to a new eye clinic yesterday because I lost my glasses about a month ago, and I've been relying on old pairs (like...6-8 years old) that aren't the right prescription for me anymore. I called my usual health clinic, but they're now scheduling appts in October. Wah?? So I called this independent clinic that happens to accept my insurance, and they got me in later that same afternoon. Amazing. Anyway, I really liked the optometrist I saw, but the woman who checked me out after my appt was also an optician (they sell glasses there) and she was REALLY pushing me to buy some of their outrageously expensive glasses. I really only wear my glasses for driving - esp now that I'm retired and rarely have to do things like look at PowerPoint charts in meetings anymore, so I am not interested in spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars on glasses. Something sub-$200 or so should do the trick just fine. She insisted that "cheap glasses" are not as good - I'd be much happier with their $600 lenses (which of course go into their $200 and up frames). Right. I thought I'd never make it out of there. She finally gave me a print-out of my new prescription and I left. I'll go to some cheaper place today. I'm guessing since this place is independent, they make most of their profit off the glasses they sell. My other clinic is a regular clinic where they have other kinds of doctors, too - not just eye doctors - so pushing glasses is not a "thing" there. Not sure if I'll go back to the new place or not, although I did like that optometrist a lot.
QOTD: hmmm - I recommended my credit union to my mother-in-law, who will be moving here in a couple of weeks. And also, my medical clinic (to her) (not the above eye place, though..). Also, my yoga studio to someone whose regular studio recently closed. I'm sure there other things I've recommended even more recently that I just can't remember at the moment!
4 years 1 month out:
B: protein pancakes with 1/3 C plain Greek yogurt and some kind of chopped fruit or fruit compote, coffee with half & half
MS: protein shake
L: I'm thinking two or three of the Turkish lentil patties I made last week as we still have a million of them. And maybe a light yogurt for some extra protein
AS: light yogurt and/or raw veggies dipped in ranch Greek yogurt
D: a couple pieces of leftover sushi and some Turkish chickpea salad
ex: yoga for sure. And some walking - before it gets unbearably hot again! (next week - 90+ temps all week - UGH!)
you should look into some of the online glasses retailers...they are absurdly inexpensive and they have TONS of options for added coatings/lens materials, and frame shapes/sizes.
you can usually upload a photo of yourself to virtually try them on and if you have a pair of glasses you already know fits you well, measure them and compare the measurements and shapes to the ones you're interested in buying.
I am obesssed with glasses. I have about 8 pairs that I rotate regularly to match my outfits and I got them all for under $80 each...some of them I got for $20-30...I use Zeelool.com a lot and have used discountglasses.com and zenni before too...
They do take about 2-3 weeks to arrive in the mail but totally worth saving the $500 I used to have to spend on ONE pair of glasses at the eye doctor.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that Story inherits her daddy's vision since he still has 20/20 at 45 years old.
I started wearing glasses about age 12 and they got progressively worse up til I was into my 30s and have mostly stabilized the past few years.
BUT IF she does need them there is no way I will pay those prices at the eye doctor, HECK NO lol.

My mom found the same pair of frames at BJ's as the fancy optometrist for $600 less yesterday! She was beyond excited. Plus she told me that she has 30 days to return for free, so if they screw up any part of the lenses she can keep bringing them bac****il they get it right. I was hesitant about her getting them there, but the policy sounds good and the frames are literally the exact same ones for so much less. I think she stumbled on a good deal.
