Morning everyone! It's gong to be a gorgeous day here in Boston--sunny with temps in the mid-80 and low humidity... I want to spend all of it outdoors! I don't have an actual plan yet, but I am thinking about a nice long walk at the Blue Hills reservation and some time at the driving range, maybe? Leads me to throw out the QOTD: What is your perfect summer day? Mine is a day at the ocean, which will be tomorrow :)

Mornin' All!

some of you know that I've been making some of my protein shakes into "ice cream" to make them more appealing. I've been working on improving the texture - like adding some fat (a little avocado, mixing in some 2% milk rather than using all unsweetened cashew milk, and/or using some Quest coconut oil powder). I started adding a little guar gum a couple of weeks ago, which also helps. Yesterday I couldn't find my guar gum (my fridge is way overdue for a cleaning!!), so I threw in some xantham gum instead. Oy oy oy. Cramps started almost immediately and lasted several hours. I was miserable. I read that "most people" don't get reactions if they ingest less than 20 grams, but I had way less than that. I added about a teaspoon (5 grams) to the whole batch, which was around four servings. I guess I am one of those unlucky few. Too bad because it worked really well - or at least as far as the texture goes!! I guess DH will be eating the rest of it - unless I can just manage to eat 1/4 C or less at a sitting (although I'm a bit hesitant to eat even that much!). The positive was that I only ended up eating 1300 kcal yesterday - no way was I going to eat anything after that!! And today I plan to go really easy and lightly on the food. A friend wanted to meet me for lunch, but luckily she suggested the student union at the university (the original union (we have two unions) is right on a lake - so people sit outside on the terrace). I'll just get something to drink since it'll be easy to do that there (as opposed to a restaurant).

QOTD: 70s or low 80s with low humidity. I love having the windows open in the house - and being near water.

4 years 1 month out:

B: I usually have protein pancakes (with plain yogurt and fruit or fruit sauce), but I'm thinking just yogurt this morning. I don't want to upset my G/I tract again...

MS: protein shake

L: cottage cheese

AS: if needed, light yogurt

D: I'm going to make turkey taco meat because I *have* to do something with the ground turkey in my fridge, but not sure if I'll have this or something gentler. I hate to eat yogurt or cottage cheese yet again, but I might...

ex: maybe a walk. Or a yoga class.

have a great day, everyone!

I think I have xantham gum issues also- and actually almond milk issues- they put this thickener in it that makes me have very bad gas.

that's what happened to me - awful gas. My abdomen was distended and I had cramps for the next seven hours or so. Awful!!

Sounds horrible! Sometimes I feel like it's a guessing game of what works and what doesn't.
