Burpee Challenge Recap

I must confess that based on the cold silence and icy glares the Burpee challenge initially received, I was quite concerned that Apple's operating system had autocorrected "100 Day Burpee Challenge" into "Weekend Hotel Tryst." Fortunately, my concerns on that account were immediately relieved when Kelly said to count her in - knowing, of course, that she is young and way out of my league. A number of others pointed out that they would do the challenge except that they hated Burpees. Or me. Or Both. Finally Jen and Janet felt sorry for me and we formed a gaggle.

For the most part I did the Burpees in one long set until I reached the 35 Burpee mark. I called 35 the the EM line. After that I did them in all sorts of variations: Sets of 10, sets of 20, Death by Burpee (one on minute one, two on minute two, etc.), as many reps as possible in 7 minutes (64), 21-18-15-12-9-6-3, etc.

I ended up doing Burpees in 4 different hotel rooms, 2 different hotel gyms, 2 different gyms at home, the garage floor of our rental in Florida but mostly on the rug in our downstairs family room.

The tally of Burpees by state is as follows:

California Burpees 71

Florida Burpees 268

Illinois Burpees 4,465

Kentucky Burpees 117

Minnesota Burpees 163

Utah Burpees 87

Total Official Burpees 5,050

The hardest day was 83 (Memorial Day). I was sore from doing 82 Burpees and Murph the day before so did not do my Burpees in the morning as we had a short flight from Minneapolis back to Chicago at 1:15. Because of flight delays and reroutings, we spent the vast majority of the day laying over in the St. Louis airport. After much internal debating as to whether I could do my Burpees in the airport terminal without being institutionalized, I decided to wait until we got home. And we got home at about 10:00 PM. Sore from Murph and a day in airports, I gritted out the 83 and went to bed.

Second hardest was when I had already done one days 50 some-odd Burpees only to learn that we were doing 64 more in class at the gym. Ugh. It didn't seem appropriate to count them against the next day's ration.

I don't think the challenge caused me to lose any weight but it has definitely helped with fitness and some muscle definition. Overall, Marilyn thought I was nuts.

So, was it fun? It was a little fun.

I would totally LOVE to go to this, Queen is one of my all time favorite bands but unfortunately it's happening when we already had plans for our annual family /cousins trip to Galena. I will be sad to miss it, are you going? you'll have to report back to me how amazing it was! LOL

We are having a hard time finding tickets. I am going to call my Blackhawks rep today to see if they have any extras that they could sell us or strings they could pull. Stubhub is crazy expensive for this. I really like United Center for concerts
