Diabetes
I have diabetes. I've had it for about 15 years. I was on 3 injectables and 3 oral meds before I had my surgery. I am taking one oral med right now and my last A1C was 6.4. I am beyond thrilled. I was a bit disappointed that my diabetes didn't go in complete remission but so thankful that it is no longer monopolizing my every thought and action that I do in a day. I just think of it this way, I was on a path of a much shorter life and definitely quality of life. Now, even though I still have diabetes, I feel so much healthier and can do so much more!

I have had t2 diabetes for about 6 or 7 years..it was a struggle that whole time. I am not a fan of any the medications the docs Rx for it. Even on medications I still felt horrible. Doctors love to prescribe them too..Seems like every visit my doctor was adding a new med..at one point I was on 6 different medications..one of which was insulin. You can not just eat what you want and expect a medication to help t2 diabetes..you have to be on top of those carbs and know exactly how many you are eating at each meal. Before weight loss surgery I made the decision that No matter what surgery I chose I was going to get my diabetes in check with my diet. For me that meant no refined sugar or carbs Ever. Under any cir****tances. Before WLS I got my A1c down to 6.2 from the high 10's. I then had my WLS and it was a miserable experience because they gave me a steroid in the hospital and it immediately made my Blood Sugar rise to over 250. and the morning of my Blood sugar was 99. When I say my mouth was Beyond dry while recovering in the hospital i am not exaggerating. I could barely speak from how dry it was..and there was nothing I could do because you can't drink water while recovering.
They say RNY is the better surgery for diabetes and I think that's great you are choosing the surgery based on that...But My advice is try to get that A1c In check with diet. Like others have said there has been people that have had their diabetes return even with RNY. I personally know people who had the RNY and their Diabetes is pretty bad Post-op. They Don't count their carbs and are still on insulin.
