Extreme itchiness?

i'm having extreme itchiness and redness on my incision sites and where I was given the numbing shots on my stomach. They are not hot and my surgeon said it's some type of allergic reaction. My question is what?
when I had VSG done last year I didn't have any reactions. When I had my gallbladder out I did and this time I did. The only difference I can think of is the surgeon used a robotic system on the last two.
I'm wondering if it used something i'm allergic to. The itchy stuff is driving me crazy! I'm taking Zyrtec but it's barely helping and Benadryl helps for a few hours.

you might be having a reaction to the surgical tape or the adhesive they used. I had that happen after phase 2 of my plastic surgery, but not phase 1 or my RNY - I had no reactions to those at all.
it could be he used a different adhesive or tape this time, or it could be that it just took a surgery or two before your body sensitized to it (my veterinarian suggested the latter as her daughter had three C-sections, and only had a reaction the third time - so her body may have been saying "enough already!" and reacted to the third time around)

Seconding the idea that you might be allergic to the adhesive! I was super itchy after my gallbladder surgery incisions were sealed off, but not after my VSG; I figure they used a different kind of tape.
I had better luck using Claratin than with Zyrtec for the itch, maybe that would help?

Just remember when taking any medication your pouch can not handle time released meds. It can release all at one time. This may be why the Benadryl is only working for 4 hours.
