Second day post op

I'm getting defensive because you're giving easy remedies for serious illnesses. I've been though a painful back surgery because my spine fused, so unless you've walked a mile in my shoes, you need not tell me what my cure is.

I exercise to be fit, not skinny...I eat to nourish my body...and I always ignore the haters, doubters and unhealthy examples that were once feeding me. I am worth a lot more than I realize, and that is my daily motivation!

Congratulations on your surgery! I'm happy that your joins are feeling so much better - it must be such a relief!

The surgery confounds our bodies in many ways, and can reset a number of processes, almost like going back to factory default. Much of how this occurs is this is mysterious to me.

I had terrible leg and foot cramps on virtually a nightly basis for many years. I'd wake up in pain and would have to get up and hobble around for 5-10 minutes until the muscular impulse to contract completely subsided, so that I could safely get back into bed. I was worried, a bit, that the surgery and shift in my intake (especially post-op vitamin and mineral malabsorption) would somehow worsen my cramps. Miraculously, they altogether vanished for many long months, and when they gradually reappeared, they often did not fully materialize - the foreshadow of cramping rather than the full monte. Now, at 23 months out, I do experience them again. I don't understand why they went away or why they returned, but the break was a welcome one!

I hope your joints remain as pain-free as they are now.

I agree with what Rocky said. Just wanted to add that I also had trouble with sweet things after surgery. My tastes didn't necessarily change as some people's do, but my sense of taste seemed to get more intense. By that I mean, sweet things tasted sweeter - spicy things tasted spicier. I had a hard time stomaching them for awhile. I don't notice it any more - maybe the intensity went away after awhile, or maybe I just got used to it. But yes - I had a hard time with sweet things for awhile after surgery.

Thank you, I'm having the same issue you had with the sweet stuff. It just tastes nauseatingly sweet, so I'm avoiding things with sucralose for now.

I had to water down any sweet things as well, they were too intense after surgery. I did a lot of warm tea, or bone broth with added protein (I used isopure unflavored). Just make sure you add the protein to warm broth, not hot. It clumps up at something like 130 degrees. There's also a chicken soup protein powder mix (hopefully someone else can chime in with the brand!) I was able to do those savory flavors much easier.

Unjury! It's very good - although not everyone likes it (most do, though...)

Congrats on your surgery! You may have a whole new life before you, but today is everything! Maureen
