I can tell from your menus that you've had some professional experience.

Looking good there.

I am envious of you gardeners! I don't have a green thumb. If I could grow any veggies, I would love to grow jalapeños, mini cucumbers, and basil. Hmm, that doesn't sound super daunting...but I have no idea how to even start. Sun or shade? Will the deer eat them? Do they need to start in the house?

QOTD: I have had many jobs, though I don't think I can compare to Cynthia. In high school I babysat, was a golf caddy for a short time, and worked at an ice cream store. In college I took a year off and worked as the dispatcher at a beer distributor, which was awesome and ended up being my summer and holiday job until I graduated. In college I worked at a bagel/sandwich shop and read to a blind professor. After college I worked at an ad agency for a year and then moved to Prague to teach English as a second language. And then moved back to the US and have been working in Marketing for the next almost 20 years. I currently work in Marketing for a huge tech company. It has its pluses and minuses but overall, I really like what I do.

B: the last of my ever roast chicken (prob about 3 oz) - need to run to Giant again! Plus 2 oz cheddar cheese.

L: Tuna with all the mix-ins (black olives, green olives, feta, onion, artichokes, roasted red pepper, salt, pepper, olive oil, crushed red pepper)

D: Turkey tacos for the fam, just the turkey, cheese, sour cream for me

E: rest day, and I am glad about that!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

You could easily grow a jalapeños pepper and basil in a planter. Get a planter, fill it with potting soil, buy the plant (get a nice hardy looking one) plant i****er and put them in direct sunlight. It should grow - don't forget to water it! I have thyme, basil, parsley, green onion and lavender in containers around the house growing already!

Oh really? I had no idea I could put a planter on my deck and plant those. So don't start with seeds, start with actual plants? I may try that! I swear, in the past they have either shriveled up or been over-watered and the soil got moldy. But perhaps I start small, with a jalapeño plant, and see what happens!

I didn't know I could grow green onions too! Yum!

I take it mini cucumbers can't be grown in a planter? I spend a fortune on those damn things!

I have grown cukes in a planter but it is alot more difficult. Tomatoes, peppers and herbs are easy. You can even get pre-planted tomatoes at Home Depot, etc. And yes, you don't need to hassle with starting with seeds. As for over watering, a good way to avoid that is to put the plant in a pot with holes in the bottom (for good drainage). Then set that pot into another one without holes. Pour the water into the outer pot, not onto the plant or soil (tomatoes don't like to have their leaves get wet). When the plant needs water, the roots will pull up the water from the outer pot. No need to worry about over watering. Just keep the water in the outer pot. Also no need to worry abou****ering at the wrong time of day. Also remember that tomatoes and peppers need a good 6-8 hours of full sun each day, so don't put them in the shade. The herbs can take more scattered light like even in your kitchen window.

Give it a try.

Yup, what she said! I have never done cukes in a planter but tomatoes, peppers, and herbs all do really well in containers, especially if you don't have a lot of room in your yard or don't want the hassle of a big garden. Go to Home Depot or Lowes or any garden center and get a well-established plant and you are set. DH drilled holes in all of my containers so they could be overwatered but I only usually water once a week once the plants are established. Good luck!

G'morning and happy Fri-yay!!

I try not to live through my kids, but boy come final season and I am as stressed if not more than my kids. DS is a jr in high school so a lot is riding on his grades this year for what college he gets into. Because of his AP classes those classes are doing finals NOW, so that they can prep for AP the last month. Aside from the fact that this logic doesn't make sense to me, we (yes we) are going through this stress twice. I did this with DD and thought it would get easier with the second kid but no, it's as stressful as before.

QOTD: au pair, restaurant hostess, semi-diplomat, executive assistant, events producer/manager.

I was so hoping to hit my personal goal weight today but still hovering around 141...the last lb doesn't wanna come off.
