Not feeling full

Hello everyone. I'm just wondering if anyone else does not feel full after eating. I had my surgery Dec 11th and have lost 110 lbs. I'm not complaining, just wondering if my pouch is oversized or did I stretch it somehow? I eat small portions and focus on protein and low carbohydrates. How long did you all drink protein shakes?

Thanks

I haven't had the surgery, but congrats on that weight loss. That's great.

I am unable to answer your question, but I would say whatever you are doing is working and you shouldn't worry about it. Not feeling full is your new normal by the sounds of it.

Keep up the good work!

Kathy

I think it may be very individual. Some people never feel hungry or full, while others get both or one or the other.

I don't think my "full" after RNY is the same feeling like I have when I was full before RNY. I had to learn how to recognize the new signals. and learned to "watch for them" as I eat. Sometimes my guy notice me getting full before my brain can formulate the thought. Apparently my body language changes, and the way I look at the food... as if wondering if I should eat more or not.

I am close to 11 years post op. I get ...whatever my body decide to let me know. I may have day that i seldom feel hungry and often feel full just after a few bites. Or days when I fell hungry most of the time, but get full, really full after a small meal. (I had 5 oz corned beef, 1/3 avocado, 1/3 cucumber - and I am stuffed)

When I eat more dense proteins, and eat slowly, I can feel full much faster that if I rush or eat slider foods.

I started feeling full app in 3-4 months after my RNY. Hungry? I often don't feel hungry until late afternoon. But I can be really hungry by the end of the day.

On days I don't feel full - it is often because I ate slider foods - i,e meat in sauce, or soup, or yogurt, fruits, etc. But if I overeat - my pouch would let me have it.

when I try to ignore the " I have enough" from my pouch, I may end up in pain, severe pain, or even have to throw up (and I hate that).

When you say you eat "small portions," how small do you mean? If you're eating very small portions, you may have never hit your pouch's capacity.

Protein shakes and other liquids will not give you any sort of full feeling. It's liquid, so it goes right through. You'll need dense protein (like meat) to get a full feeling.

How many calories do you get a day and how much do you eat in a sitting, i.e. 4 oz, 6 oz, etc. I was told I should be eating about 800 to 1000 calories and in fact, at my 6-month appt, I was told I wasn't eating enough. Now I don't have the problem of not feeling full, if I eat 1 bite too many cuz I didn't pay attention to my signals or it tasted good and I wanted just one bite more, I puke. Plain and simple. But, if you aren't eating enough, your body may be telling you it needs more nutrition.

Readings I have found helpful and/or follow: 1. we are to consider the words "full" and "hungry" as no-longer-apply terms. Instead of counting on "full" or "hungry" to guide our meal plans, some post-WLS programs instruct to eat every three waking hours choosing dense proteins and vegetables with a portion limit of never more than a cup of food at one time. 2. the pouch does have some stretch over time but not that easy to over-stretch. Dense proteins will create the sensation of pouch restriction the best. Many WLSers report small-pouch days with no explanation why restriction can be more noticeable one day and not the next. 3. protein shakes are considered an early-post WLS food choice with recommendation to graduate to dense protein choices within either a few week's/few month's time. Then, some WLSers reserve protein shakes or protein bars as more an emergency-type food choice when away from home. 4. We are to ask ourselves three questions when making a food choice...is it a dense protein? is it a vegetable? is it an occasional fruit? If the answer is no, rethink your choice. (edited to correct mistakes and add words)

Your weight loss so far and your concern to follow guidelines will help ensure continued successes. Best Wishes, gordo71.

Thanks everyone for your responses. Sometimes I worry to much and over think things. I do focus on 800-1000 calories a day. I think it's time to say goodbye to my shakes and focus on dense protein. Have a weekend!

I feel full. I have restriction, but I bloody keep eating. Then I get sick. I had surgery a bout 1,5 years ago. I still drink protein shakes till this day. I didn't have one today, but i had one yesterday. This is because I like getting 30 g of protein from the shake in one pop as I don't really like eating meat. I don't think you stretched your pouch! Some say it's a myth. I don't know what I believe, but over time your stomach gets used to being able to eat more. And tolerate more. Some days I'm able to eat so much and other days I feel sick and can't eat so much.
