Jp drain

I had my rny surgery on Monday April 8th. Everything with the surgery went well. The nurses kept giving me heparin and my drain was always full with deep red, almost plum blood. I was kept another night and they stopped the heparin. The Blood the went night red and a llot less. I'm around 20ml to 30ml. Each drain, about every 5 hours. They want me to come in again to maybe get some imaging done. I dont want to be hospitalized again I dont want surgery again. I am feeling so much better, but this stupid drain. Has anyone had this?

I take images in my posop for others motives. I belive that is important. Only images and you back to house. :-)

The day after my surgery they did an upper gi with contrast that shows no leaks. That's all.

Speaking anecdotally, I would say that drains aren't SUPER common after WLS, but some people do have them. From what I've seen on the boards, they actually seem to be a bit more common after plastic surgery than after bariatric surgery.

I definitely understand wanting to be done with the hospital! The good news is that additional surgery seems to be really rare, and only happen if there's something like a leak or stricture, which would present other symptoms that a doctor (probably) would have already noticed by now. Those are very serious complications, though, so I think it's a good sign that they want to do imaging and check everything out.

They usually don't keep you unless they absolutely have to. I would absolutely follow the surgeons orders. It's probably nothing always better safe than sorry.

I had a Jp drain for 6 weeks after surgery due to many complications. It's a pain in the butt, but your doctor has placed the drain for a reason. If you need imaging done, then you need it done. RNY is major surgery. I would want to do anything it takes to make sure that everything goes well.

Whether you want another surgery or not is kind of irrelevant if you NEED surgery. Your health and well-being is worth any inconvenience.
