I am sorry about April 1 being hard on you; my grandfather passed on 3/30 10 years ago and it always makes me a bit melancholy.

I have tried the curry chicken breast; it's ok..the curry flavor was pretty subtle. I didn't try it shaved though and if they are out of ever roast again, I might try it that way. I've also tried the buffalo chicken one but I'd put the curry ahead of that (I've never been a buffalo wings fan).

Hello April! How is it possibly April already?!

In honor of her upcoming birthday, I took my elder niece to a cupcake decorating class. We made LLAMA cupcakes and it was SO fun! We now both want to go back to the studio to learn more decorating techniques, but seriously - I have a major sweet tooth and baking just isn't good for me. I seem to be incapable of portion control/giving away my bakes. I have to really limit my baking because of this. Sometimes I've had luck freezing things and pulling out one or two cookies or whatever, but I just can't control myself around fresh baked goods.

QOTD: I can not think of a single April Fools Day prank I've pulled or had pulled on me. Seriously, is that weird?

Super cute cupcakes! I have to stay away from baking right now too. Even if I stick to making "on plan" things I will over indulge. I am staying away from Pinterest right now for that exact reason.

What an adorable photo! I'm right there with you on baking and sweets in general! I have chosen to avoid making altogether. If I was having people over I'd make something, but would send it all home with them!

G'morning Jen & everybody!

Back from DC.

Em, can you pls adopt me? Every time I go to DC I fall in love with it more and more. I would move there in a heart beat.

We had so much fun, visited tons of places. The cherry blossoms were almost at peak. Hung out with my DD and my friend's DD. Ate good. Watched an operetta put on by GW students that made me fall asleep! All in all a GREAT trip. I am ready to go back again.

Today I'm home and working but starting tonight I'm hitting the road again with DS for a college tour. He, unlike DD, wants to stay in CA so we are just going down the coast visiting 4-5 colleges.

QOTD: can't remember any.

My meals for the day:

  • TONS of coffee and tea
  • Chicken skewers
  • Real Good chicken tamales
  • Yogurt & parm cheese

I known it's not pic day day but I loved all the pink in DC. Even though one pic is not a cherry tree.

OMG I know, isn't DC magical?! I am sorry I was out of town while you were here :( It's funny, I have been here 11 years now and I NEVER get tired of the scenery. I have likely seen the Washington Monument upwards of 500 times, and the view never gets old. Each time I walk on the National Mall, I feel energized. The city has such an amazing and diverse set of neighborhoods too - once you live here, you get to know all these other places outside of NW DC and it's just such a magical place. Now that I am in the burbs, I am only downtown a couple times a month, but I get so much energy just walking the streets of DC! I know your DS and DH love the ocean, but maybe you can convince your hubby to retire on the east coast. It will likely depend on where your kids end up :)

What restaurants did you go to? Where did you take your daughter and all her friends?

So we ate near by wherever we were visiting. But a special just moms lunch was at Occidental (or maybe Occident?). For moms and daughters we went to District Commons (Founding farmers wouldn't take reservation till 8:30 pm). I took DD and friends to The Diner in Morgan Adams. They like it because serves brk all day long and they usually go there after their dance performances. In fact I was the only one who actually ordered dinner, everybody else ordered brk food. Last night just DD and I went to Flavio in Georgetown

Now don't laugh, but for one of our lunches DD took me to Roti. I fell in love with their falafel and chicken kabob! OMG! I wish we had a Roti on the west coast. I mentioned it to DH and he said to look into opening a franchise here where we live. Is it silly that of all the good foods we ate Roti is the one I'm excited about? DD presented it to me as a middle eastern chipotle which made me laugh.

I am still waiting for my adoption papers from you to move to D.C.

I lived 2 blocks from the Diner in AdMo for 7 years! My old hood! Roti is super delicious, and have you been to Meze? It's the other Middle Eastern version of Chipotle (and funny enough, I call &Pizza the pizza version of Chipotle...basically anywhere you move along a line and get to customize your fast casual meal, I call it the X version of Chipotle!). We used to order Roti catering at my old job in Chinatown.

Occidental is good though I haven't been there in years!

Whenever people visit DC I tell them places to eat by neighborhood, since clearly you are going to eat wherever it is you are at that time. You wouldn't go eat at 14th and U St if you are down by the monuments!

I can live on Roti for the rest of my life.

I gotta tell DD about Meze.
