Mornin'!

Well our Turkish adoptee and I met this wonderful guy from Turkey last night at the Turkish table. Another PhD student (although he's getting his degree here - not in Turkey - as our adoptee is (our adoptee is just here for a year doing research for his dissertation. This new guy has been here for six years). This new guy is fabulous. He invited us over to his apartment afterward for tea - we stayed until 11:00. I adore him. We're meeting up for lunch on Monday (would have been sooner although this week is packed for both of us). He's one of those people whom upon meeting you feel like you've known forever. Too bad he finishes his degree and heads back to Turkey this summer :-( Why does this always happen to me? But I'm so glad to have met a new friend - and so glad for our adoptee, too. He definitely needed to meet some other grad students from Turkey. They both love movies, so they've already made plans to go some the next three or four nights.

Russian history class this morning, lunch with a friend, then I'm helping another friend with some stuff in her house this afternoon. Yoga tonight. Things will be really busy the next couple of weeks. I never dreamed I'd be so busy in retirement!

QOTD: I drink a Bai water when I first roll out of bed (18 oz), then about a quart of caffeinated coffee (which I don't count towards my fluids). I have a 32 oz protein shake as a mid-morning snack (only 1 or 1.5 scoops of protein powder - the rest is some doctored-up concoction I put it in to keep things interesting. Few calories (other than the protein powder), lots of fluids...). So that's 50 oz (uncaffeinated, that is) before lunch. It's pretty easy from there on out to get up to 100 (or more) - a couple more Bai waters or 18 oz Crystal Lights in the afternoon - and more of the same (or herbal tea) at night.

3 years 9 months out:

B: coconut Greek yogurt with mango pieces, coffee with half & half

MS: protein shake

L: meeting a friend at a Middle Eastern restaurant. Something protein-forward, like chicken kabobs...

AS: light yogurt and/or raw veggies dipped in hummus or ranch Greek dip

D: Turkish chicken stew (keep putting this on my list, but most days have gone with something else. I did have some last night, though)

ES: same as AS

ex: yoga (?)

awesome news about your friend meeting new friends with so mu*****ommon. Love that.

I hear that all the time about people being even more busy in retirement than when they were working full time. My folks are a lot older than you but I swear they are booked for weeks in advance with "stuff," it kills me how busy they are.

How is your kitty doing? I hope she/he is feeling better.

thanks for asking about the kitty - he's doing great! He was still really lethargic yesterday morning when I got up - just lying there, wouldn't eat, looked awful, etc), and I thought we'd have to take him back to the vet's, but a couple hours later, he'd really turned a corner - ate well, drank, jumped on and off up the bed (we have him isolated in our room so the other cats won't bother him) - just like his old self! He was really active - and hungry - all day yesterday and again this morning - so I think he's feeling pretty good again! He has to keep his e-collar on at least until tonight but preferably until tomorrow - he hates that, but too bad - he has to wear it - but he'll be fine. Now hopefully the stem cell treatment will work. It does for most cats, but not all. Fingers crossed since it wasn't cheap - but then, neither were all his meds and blood panels, so...

I used to hear that, too - but now I understand! You basically have time to do all the things you never had time to do when you worked - and suddenly, your days are full!

Good morning! Dropping my car off at the shop AGAIN so hopefully we'll get everything straightened out. I'm going to the dealership this time. My car is no longer under warrantee, but I felt like I wanted someone to look at it who specialized in my car make at this point.

Qotd: like you, I start with 1-2 cups of caffeinated coffee and then switch to decaf until lunch. After lunch I drink water, and my work also stocks 0 calorie vitamin water or Hin****ers if I want something with flavor. I also have crystal light packets in my desk. After work I might drink another 44 oz glass of water at home (a big cup from the gas station). I get between 100-150 oz of liquids on a normal to good day.

breakfast: Greek L&F, then coffee

lunch: fish fry at work to kick off Lent, I'll likely just have salad

dinner: turkey meatballs with ricotta and marinara
