Hey Guys! I had RNY surgery on 01/25/19. I've been on pureed & soft foods for about 2-wks. I've been doing ok, but... For the past week or so, it seems like EVERYTHING (except liquids) is making me feel very full...very fast & nauseous...even things I have been able to eat. I feel hungry, but... I only eat a few bites & I feel like I'm going to vomit. I haven't vomited, but... I feel like I could, so I stop eating. My concern is...I don't want to make myself sick by not eating & I don't want to delay talking to my surgeon if this isn't normal. Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks,

Margaret

check with your surgeon. That sometimes happens when you're progressing your foods too quickly, but since you've eaten these foods before without problems, you could be developing a stricture. You're in the right time frame for it. I had two - one at four weeks out and another at eight weeks out. Easy fix.

Ok. Just curious... Is that only diagnosed w/an EGD? Or, can they confirm that some other way?

yes - with an EGD. I'm guessing that's the only way they can see it. If that's what it is, they'll stick some instrument in there with a balloon-type thing on the end of it and fill it with air so that the stricture stretches out. Only takes a few minutes more. Afterward, you'll feel about 100% better!

That would be great! I have been bragging about how well everything has been going. Then, all of the sudden, this started to happen. :( Do you think I should call him this weekend? Or, just wait until Monday?

I remember calling someone when it happened to me, which must have been on a weekend (I think it was one of those "nurse on call" things or something). They said as long as I can keep fluids down, I could wait a couple of days, but if it got to the point where I couldn't keep fluids down, either, then I needed to go to the ER and have it done right away.

JWell are you hitting your protein and hydration totals on what you are able to eat? Absent vomiting, I'd be inclined to listen to your fullness and scale back. People speak of big pouch days and little pouch days-- maybe you are in a little pouch zone...

No, I never hit my water & protein goals. I'm really pushing for water, but my best day was 60 oz & that was only one day. Usually, it's less than 48 oz. :-/

Also pay close attention to what you are eating. I kept a journal on MFP and could see when something did not work... so many things and everyone seems to be different. Eggs were a complete no-go for me. Anything with a funny texture, no-go. And things that seemed okay one day were a complete fail another. A month is not long. I could barely keep my one ounce of protein drink and one ounce of water for a long while. And sometimes, you may just be moving along too quickly for your body.
