birth control options after surgery
My periods after surgery are short and sweet, yay, but my PMS is off the charts. I think it's time to get back on birth control, but I wonder about options other than the pill.
Does anyone use the patch post-surgery? Shot? Ring?
Obviously my doc will advise when I see her next month, but thought I'd ask around beforehand.
thanks :)

I had an IUD - very simple and quick and easy to insert...I didn't even have pain like some people do (some claim it's like a terrible cramp as it's inserted). 99% of my friends ceased having periods once they got the Mirena, but sadly I was not as fortunate! It's great though, since you get five years pregnancy free!

Another voice in support of the Mirena! I had one pre-op, then had it removed a year after WLS so I could get pregnant. I got knocked up within two weeks, then had another IUD placed after I gave birth.
No periods, no mental health side effects, no trouble. It's amazing and I love it!

From the many WLS education sessions I attended, the medical professionals strongly stressed, "because women become so fertile after WLS not one, but two forms of birth control are recommended." In case not all WLS facilities advise two forms of birth control, I figured it might be worth mentioning here as fair warning some places do.
I also have the IUD. I have the Kyleena, which is slightly smaller and meant for women who have never been pregnant. I was also told to use extra protection/second form of BC as some hormonal birth controls may not be as reliable while we're rapidly losing weight, hormone dumping, and increased fertility besides.
I did have some pain and cramping when it was inserted, but after a couple days I was fine, haven't had any discomfort since. I love not having to think about it, and my periods have reduced to just a couple days of light bleeding and spotting.
