Nausea with Antibiotics 8 weeks post op
Hello!
I'm new to this forum but I'm excited to connect with others on the same journey as me.
So here's my current situation...
About 5 weeks post op (gastric bypass) I started taking antibiotics for a sinus infection. Unfortunately my new pouch was not tolerating it well. I stopped taking it a few days early because I was feeling sick when I ate or drank anything and other times too. This led to me taking in very little food and fluids. My doc gave me IV fluids and scheduled me to continue getting them twice a week for two weeks. After the second round of IV fluids and being off the antibiotics I started to feel better and was able to take in more food/fluids.
After a few days off the antibiotic the sinus infection came back and I had to start taking another antibiotic. This time I'm taking a probiotic too but the antibiotic is still making me feel sick the same as the first one so I'm taking in very little food/fluids yet again. I try to force myself to eat and drink but the nausea gets so bad that after a sip or a couple bites I feel like a may vomit.
The doc did an endoscopy and ruled out a stricture or ulcer. So I'm happy about that but can't take this nausea and dehydration.
Anyone else experience this? Any advice?
TIA

I can only take antibiotics with yogurt -- bite of yogurt, wait a few minutes, anti biotic, bite of yogurt.
How often are you taking the antibiotic that it's impacting every time you eat or drink? Could the dr give you a 1X a day dose vs multiples?

I have the same problems with some antibiotics. If a certain one makes me sick, I ask for a change to another one. If necessary, I have asked for anti-nausea meds and they have helped. I hope you feel better soon!

Thanks ladies. I'm taking them twice a day and taking a probiotic. The doc called me in anti nausea meds today and they are helping. Whew.

Ask your Zofran (anti-nausea med) with the antibiotics. I have also found that antibiotics that are not in capsule form work better and if I remember correctly, doxycycline was fairly small and not in a capsule form. Some antibiotics are huge, at least to me. They digest more quickly, I think and so work better in our pouch. Every time my doc has given me capsule (the one that you pull apart and there are little itty bitty balls of medicine), I've had to have 2 rounds of antibiotics and the 1st round doesn't even help me feel better, to be honest. Hope you get to feeling better soon.
