Hi Karen - I am sure this has been asked before but what do you mean when you say a 160 calorie meal or a 170 calorie meal? I am always looking for new ideas. Thanks!

Hi Beth,

I buy Lean Cuisine and Smart Ones microwave meals (I'm not much of a cook) that are 160 or 170 calories. My favorites are Lean Cuisine Herb Roasted Chicken (170 calories) and Steak Portabella (160 calories) and Smart Ones Slow Roasted Turkey Breast (170 calories). I also like Smart Ones Ham & Cheese Scramble (190 calories). I'm lazy and it's easier to just pop a meal into the microwave.

Hey guys, Im still pre op but a little freaked out about the eating afterwards (thanks nutritionist!) I tried eating some cottage cheese tonight. Yuck. Any of you guys have ideas to make it taste better? (yes, it was the low fat kind)

Hi Heather,

Welcome! Sometimes your tastes change after surgery. What you thought tasted terrible before surgery might taste yummy after surgery. Personally I LOVE light & fit Greek yogurt. For cottage cheese, how about mixing it with sugar-free jello?

1) if you don't like cottage cheese, you don't have to eat it just because you became post op! You can do greek yogurt for the same protein level.

2) your tastes will change post op; sometimes they change back, sometimes they change later but they do change

3) I hated cottage cheese but Emiepie recommended the cinnamon raisin carb master and it was good, so try different kinds if you do want to add cottage cheese to your menu.

4) you've come to the right place for menu tips; a lot of the regular posters are far out but there are people that are newer too -- and you can always go back pages to older threads to see what people were eating as they progressed!

Good luck to you!

VSG on 11/19/14

Good morning Beth and Menu folks. Snow last night , another 3 inches. We had already surpassed last winters snow fall. I am happy for my friends that have snowmobiles that they can finally use, but I am so over winter. One plus is that my electric bill has been lower with the boys living away from home...LOL

Accountability was spot on...but I gained a pound...no other way to say it, the scale ****** me off.....

QOTD - I recently watched 2 episodes on season 5, a set of Twins and a girl named Ashley. I was shocked that they ended up having to have VSG? I was thinking that I was losing more weight at similar points of the process than Ashley. I hope she does well, do they follow up? I am not a fan of the show either, I really feel for them as I know how I felt about myself at 299 pounds, I missed out on so much.

B - Eggs and bacon

L - salami and cheese

S - ham roll

D - Burger topped with pepperjeck, guac and salsa......

E - Dreadmill

203.6 this morning - yes, the scale is not my friend, I drank 120 oz + of water I did not snack.....did I mention I despise the scale?

Edited to add - I am so fired up at the scale I end my post Thanks, Mike.....LOL...

Thanks, Mike

I'll be on the dreadmill too. With all the snow days I have successfully cleaned up 3/4 of our basement and now can get to the treadmill and elliptical machine. I have a tv with a firestick and I am currently in the middle of a good movie on Prime. Tonight I plan on the treadmill and finishing the movie. I'd much rather be outside but with the current muck and mess I'll stick it out in the basement!

I've been known to having long discussions with my scale. And sometimes because the scale doesn't behave it gets a time out and gets locked in the closet until it decides to behave correctly...meaning always a downward trend! My scale is very stubborn so gets a lot of time outs.

Good morning Menu friends! It's my board meeting night, so I'm home this morning, not going in until lunch time. I should be working out or something, but for the moment, I'm drinking coffee, watching tv, and knitting.

QOTD: I haven't seen that show. I love a cooking or home renovation reality tv, but I'm not a fan of the type of reality tv.

TSS: 4 years, 11 months

B: coffee with half and half, egg cups

S: cottage cheese

L: rotisserie chicken and string cheese

S: apple and almonds

D: tacos!

S: PB pretzels

Have a great day, all!

Hi Beth and everyone,

Hope Daisy is still migraine free and just had a long commute today or some morning meetings!

QOTD: I find that show to be terribly sad. I mean it's awful to see people who can't get out of bed or wipe their own butt and are home bound. It's awful to see how people treat them. And worst of all is the a**holes who enable them and bring them five happy meals for dinner. How could you contribute to that? At least when I was obese it was all my own doing - I can't imagine having a parent or spouse bringing me 10,000 calories to my bedridden body...

I am having some menu fatigue this week, despite having traveled and eaten out last week. I normally make a weekly menu on my iPhone in the Notes app, and then create a shopping list and then methodically prep and cook each thing each day. But for some reason I just feel like I sort of get why a lot of Americans eat out so often. Sometimes I'm just tired.

B: 4 oz ever roast chicken, 1 oz goat cheese

L: tuna mixed with feta cheese, shallots (out of red onion), artichokes, roasted red pepper, kalamata olives, green olives, salt, pepper, crushed red pepper, a hint of olive oil

D: 5 oz crab broiled with mayo and Old Bay!

S: Mini peppers with greek yogurt/ranch powder. It's nuts, this greek yogurt is 2/3 cup, 100 calories, 18 g protein, 7 g carb. It's from Costco.

E: Spin class again (the time works for me)

Have a fab day, everyone!
