What is on your menu today (Wednesday) RNYers?
Good morning, happy hump day everyone!
it is snowing a little bit here this morning, I don't think we are supposed to get much accumulation but I am SO over it...I swear our trip to Arizona can't come soon enough...It's less than 2 weeks away now, and I still feel like I am not prepared yet...I've had like 5 months to plan this haha...I haven't flown on an airplane in like 9 years so I am sure lots has changed...My dad bought our plane tickets and sent me the flight info, but I have no idea if I am supposed to have some kind of boarding pass to present? I also don't know how we are getting to the airport for sure--we cannot afford to park the car there for 9 days, so we were going to Uber, but I am not sure about getting one with a car seat for Story...and we can't bring ours to the airport- what will we do with it there? my parents already have one in their car for when we get there...I think I heard that you don't need one in a Limo, so we are probably going to go that route--still cheaper than parking at the airport! guess I should really figure this out before next week!
QOTD: I drive a 2011 Nissan Cube and it is my dream car--not kidding. The first time I ever saw one on the road I was in love. It's the cutest thing ever and it is SUPER roomy on the inside--I feel high up like driving a bus or something with the tall flat windows, and it gets great gas mileage which is nice since I have a long-ish commute. It doesn't have seat warmers or remote start which is really the only thing I'd add to it, but my last 3 cars were super old and driven til they completely died, and they had NOTHING...like not even automatic windows---yes I had to ROLL them down! LOL...this one I got when it was 2 years old...It still runs perfectly and the only problem I've ever had with it is getting flat tires which has nothing to do with the car. It's black with little glitters and when I bought it, I named it Henry...because it looks like a Brittish hat, and the name just sounded perfect haha. I will drive him until it's more expensive to keep him than trade him in.
Morning: Coffee w/ 1/3 vanilla PP
B: HB egg and 1 slice low carb banana bread
L: leftover pork fried cauliflower rice
S: L&F greek yogurt
D: turkey italian sausage w/kale & sweet potato
have a wonderful day everyone!

I can't help on the car seat/uber but I have lots of tips on the "what's new with security"...
1) you will need boarding passes for everyone, including Story - you can have them on your phone or print them out. You can only check in 24 hours before you flight and that's when you can download the mobile pass or print (I usually just take a screenshot on my phone of the mobile boarding pass -- that way you don't have hit the airport wifi at the same time as everyone else). If you're on Southwest, you want to check in exactly 24 hours in advance so you get a good boarding position
2) you'll show your boarding pass at security -- at security you'll have to take off your shoes, heavy coat, take out your liquid toiletries (which should be in a 1 quart container and not including any single bottle over 3 oz), each of you can have 1 toiletries bag (if you are checking all your toiletries, don't worry about that part). You'll also need to take out any laptops, iPads, kindles and the latest thing is they make you take out big books or if you have more than one book. Books are dangerous! If you are lucky, they may give you the free TSA pre-check (this seems to happen a lot with kids) in which case, you can leave everything in your bag, keep your shoes on and but you'll probably still have to take off a heavy coat. Story will be able to leaver her shoes and everything on no matter what and they will make her walk through the detector alone but other than that you won't be separated.
3) don't be surprised if you get selected for secondary screening -- on the few times I haven't had pre-check for whatever reason, I"ve found that the "layering" of the extra skin shows up one the body scanner as suspicious; my last pat down was more thorough than my last exam at the lady doc and it was all the "excess" spots.
4) alex and ani bracelets set off the metal detectors every time -- in some places the TSA people actually call out the brand by name to take them off, lol
5) you can bring through empty water bottles/travel mugs and fill up on the other side; most of the little shops do have cheese/nuts/jerky options (but you can bring those through with you too -- yogurt seems to depend on the screener if they let it through or not); if I have a long flight, I'll bring a protein powder, get a warm skim milk at the coffeeshop and then once it cools a bit mix that in my travel mug for a treat on the plane. For years traveling for work, I developed the mindset that I "deserve" a treat on travel days -- now I have one that works for post-WLS! If you're flying out of O'hare they have one of my favorite tea kiosks near terminal H, called Argo tea - they usually have something nice and seasonal.
6) every airline has developed their own boarding rules, let me know what airline you're on and I'll give you any scoop I have. Many of them have moved the family boarding to be less convenient which is a shame.
If you're coming into Sky Harbor -- they have airport therapy dogs so watch for them, they have purple coats and you can pet and love them all you want!

Awesome, thank you so much for all the tips!! I am already making sure we don't bring too many things that might be suspicious looking LOL...We will probably check our toiletries except for basic things like toothbrushes and maybe chapstick haha.
My dad told me about bringing empty water bottles and snacks too -- we are flying Spirit airlines on the way there and United on the way back...he said Spirit basically charges you for everything extra so I just want to make sure we come prepared.
our flight is at 3pm on a Saturday, Story has Dance in the morning until 10am so I think we will pack up the car and leave pretty soon after that to get to my sister's house (she is about 45 mins from us and 30 mins from OHare) and leave the car there. We'll have the limo come pick us up from there...I think we are going to try to get tto the airport by 1:00 so we have plenty of time to figure out what we need to do. I will have to download the boarding passes on friday afternoon--I'll definitely take screenshots too just in case the wifi decides to be wonky!
I'll prepare myself for intimate pat-downs LOL!
thanks again! this is super helpful!!

I am not sure about in the Chicago-land area, but here in DC, when you open the uber app, you can choose from a variety of ride types - they have Uber pool (you have to share with other people), UberX (the most affordable)...then there is also Uber Black (fancy cars) and if you scroll over once more, it has an option called UberX Car Seat. For a ride right now for me to get to the airport (just for a comparison)...a ride is $42 in UberX and $53 for UberX car seat. The fancy Uber Black is $102!
Like Jen, and despite being post plastics, I often get verrrrry intimate pat downs.
You're going to have such an awesome trip!!!
re: rolled windows. My last Honda was a 1991. I had to get rid of it about 10 years ago not because it was worn out - but because it was badly vandalized in a parking garage, and it would have cost more to fix it than the book value of the car. Anyway, the first time my niece rode in it, she was absolutely AMAZED at the windows that you had to roll up and down. "Those are SO AWESOME!", she squealed. Ha!
G'morning all!
To all on the path of snow storm, stay warm.
I, like Beth, had a support group meeting last night. I gotta say I like my meetings. It's a combo of pre-op and post op. We have ppl who are new to post op and one lady who had it 14 years ago. The NUT who moderates it is great. The topic last night was what are your fears after you reach goal. What surprised me was folks who thought they were more fragile after losing weight. I feel so much stronger physically. I felt those who felt fragile were obese most of their lives until they got surgery, so they were using the weight as a padding. There was also discussion about fear of your clothes and regain, which is my nightmare. All in all a good meeting.
QOTD: a red BMW X-5. It has three rows (the third row is hidden until you need it) and it was great while I was taking kids to waterpolo and swim meets. The first 4 years it was great but now every little thing costs an arm and a leg. It's a great car but I wouldn't buy it again due to maintenance cost. I'm eyeing a fiat 500 XL, red of course. I don't need a big car any more because DS drives and god forbid the team gets into a mom's car! I'm sure the next time we are due for something with BMW and it costs too much DH will finally agree with me to sell the car.
B: coffee protein
L: chicken veggie soup
S: parm cheese
D: burrito bowl, no rice or beans.
Have a great hump day.

Ooh, good topic. I'll suggest that for our next meeting. Our NUT encourages us to email her topics for future meetings.

Happy Wednesday!! I just got the call and my long awaited fridge will be here within the half hour!!! Yay!! Best non-vacation hump day!
QOTD - I have a 2013 Mazda CX5 (small suv) that I love. I was given a loaner a few months ago when it was getting serviced of the 2019 Mazda CX5 and I want that one....but no car payment will keep me in this for a long time and it only has 65K miles on it. My last car was a Pontiac Vibe and if they still made them, I would never have switched, just got the newer year in 2012 when I bought this one. I gave it to my sister for a small car for her and it's now the family loaner which is awesome; I still get to drive it when I visit. I love that car.
Accountability - yesterday was a much better day and I stayed on track.
Menu - light on the coffee and half and half because I ran out so now I'm just on water.
B - Eli Quark Complete Meal -- this was a banana bread flavored quark with walnuts, flax or chia and a few dark chocolate chips. I didn't like it as much as I like the regular quark but it was something new to try-- they had the banana bread, a german chocolate cake one, and a pB&J one.
L - 3 oz cheese
D - ? but I will go shopping and find something (probably chicken or beef) and then I get to cook and put stuff in the fridge!! (It's the little things, I tell you).
