It's likely dehydration making you nauseated. I ended up in the ER at a few weeks out because of nausea. It ended up being dehydration. They loaded me up on fluids and sent me home, and I was able to drink and eat after that. Try drinking warm bone broth. I have good luck with warm, salty liquids like broths versus cold stuff. I do well with warm teas and broths. I'm 15 years out from surgery and when I just don't feel good, I still use bone broth and warm tea to keep hydrated. And to this day, I can't drin**** cold water. It nauseates me. I drink water at room temp. I can drink other stuff cold, but just no****er. It's weird.

Yeah, that's what I'm fearing.....is that it's dehydration. Sorry you had to go through that. I had a little bit of warm tea and some soup tonight which helped a little. I was able to get it down ok. Gonna try to drink one more cup before bed if I can. Still feeling queasy after taking a vitamin. The only way I can stand the taste is to take it with applesauce. Thanks for your reply!

You sound just like me (see my recent post). My surgery was 1 day before yours. Today has been decent with fluid intake, but protein (& meds) just aren't there.... ugh! (I'm trying).

Jan. 22, 2019 had RNY surgery. Please send positive thoughts and prayers my way. Thanks!

Ugh sorry you're going through the same thing! It really sucks doesn't it? That's good you are at least getting your fluids in pretty well. My fluid intake sucks. No matter how hard I try I just can't do it. Did a bit better tonight with warm liquids....but the water I was drinking at work today was a real struggle! Eight hours at work and only able to drink one 16.9 ounce bottle of water. Pretty pathetic I know. I have got to do better. Hang in there.....we will make it eventually right?

The fact that you drank water & it actually stayed down is amazing. All day my fluids wouldn't so I ended up at my doctor's office getting 2 bags of IV fluids & an esophogram. I finally feel decent again though.... now to "sip, sip, sip" (well... try...). I wish us both the best. This is rough.

I had this at four to six weeks post op. Mine passed but felt horrible. Hang in there and keep trying to drink. Boiling my water then chilling it helped for me.

Yes dehydration could be causing it, but I was nauseous for a very long time. I carried tic tacs with me everywhere for the first year. One or two melted in my mouth helped.

Wow, sorry you were nauseous for so long! I'm hoping this ends soon. Thanks for the tip! I will have to try the tic tacs.

I am just so tired of feeling this way all the time. Only relief I get is when I sleep. Broke down crying today. I don't mean to be a baby....just never thought it would be this hard! My lips are so dry and cracked and my mouth stays as dry as cotton....I know I'm dehydrated. Didn't eat breakfast this morning....I simply couldn't. Ate 2 ounces of soup for lunch and for dinner just had some warm broth. The warm broth gave me like 10-15 minutes of relief until the nausea was full force again. Warming up some peppermint tea now to see if that will calm it some so I can sleep tonight. Just don't know how much longer I can go on like this.

Hello MadisonRose:

I hope my reply doesn't end up making you feel worse. I just feel like I have to post this because I'm still looking for solutions to my persistent nausea.

I'm about 6 months post-op and I'm having problems with nausea every time I try to eat dense protein. It even happens with protein shakes!

As soon as the first or second bite of dense protein hits my pouch, waves of nausea come crashing in. Then, I don't want to eat any more. On rare occasions, including at work, it has been so bad that I ended up vomiting.

Naturally, if I eat a high carbohydrate food, I have no problems with nausea! Because I'm not meeting my daily protein and fluid goals and adding in some carbs, my weight loss has come to a screeching halt. I lost only 2 lbs over the past 3 months!! I'm afraid that I'm going to start regaining weight.

I've been to my surgeon, who did 2 EGDs. The first one showed a stricture that he dilated, but the nausea continued. The second EGD, about 3 months post-op, did not show a stricture or an ulcer. My bariatric medical provider ordered an upper GI series that I had last week. This only showed a small amount of reflux.

And the nausea continues . . .

Not only am I nauseated all the time, sometimes with vomiting, but I'm also terrified I'm going to start regaining weight. It's also frustrating that I'm not losing weight.

MadisonRose, I wish I had a brilliant solution for our nausea problem! If I do find out something I will be happy to share it with you and anyone else suffering from constant nausea post-op.

I am so sorry you are feeling this way too!!! I would not wish this on my worst enemy! I've been feeling this way for a whole week and am so sick of it! I can't even imagine feeling this way six months out. You poor thing!!!

Some days I don't eat...I simply can't. If I do eat it's only a bit of warm broth. It's about all I can get down. Next Thursday is my post op appointment and they were supposed to clear me for solid foods, which I was so excited for a week ago, but now I don't think they will since I'm feeling this way. I wouldn't even want to try solid foods feeling this way. I'm certain I'm dehydrated as I'm not getting nowhere near my fluid requirements in. I'm now getting muscle spasms in my calves. I also now have heartburn which the omeprazole doesn't seem to be helping.

I'm almost 4 weeks out and I've only lost 35 pounds so far. I'm sure once this nausea goes away I'll stall or maybe even regain. At this point I don't care. I just want to feel normal again. It's nice to know that others are in the same boat...although I hate at the same time that you guys have to be in this boat.

Thabk you so much for sharing your story! It really is nice to know I'm not alone. I hope you feel better soon!!! And yes, if you do find a solution to this problem, please do share! I will definitely do the same!
