Living with bypass
Friends,
Back to the forum. Again asking me if in performing this surgery we did not exchange one disease for another disease. Forever our organism will be different. We can not take an anti-inflammatory ... I feel like I'm not a person like the others after surgery. It's agonizing. I think it reduces our life expectancy. Do we fall into a trap when performing the surgery?
I am 100% healthier post-surgery than I would be had I continued with the path of obesity and comorbidities I was on.

No, I don't think I exchanged one disease for another. I think I took a step in improving my health long-term and giving myself a better quality of life.
I'm no longer tired all the time. I no longer have problems supporting my body weight while standing. I'm no longer in danger of developing sleep apnea or diabetes. I'm no longer afraid of doing activities for fear that my size will be a hindrance.
I think if I'd foregone surgery, I'd never have fully addressed the issues behind my emotional rating, I'd never have succeeded in eating healthier long term, and I'd still experience the difficulty that comes from trying to navigate the world while being 293 lbs.
I woke up in between a memory and a dream...

What is your story? Have you had gastric bypass surgery; if so, when, and have you had complications? Why do you think you have another disease and which ones are you referring to? I'm confused.

I disagree completely that I've exchanged one disease for another. I've exchanged the limitations of being an active diabetic and physical limitations of being obese for a better, longer life and an inability to take anti-inflammatories. I more than win on the trade.

That's a good question. I honestly don't know. I do have a lot of issues with my gut, my body in general. Some of them could be a negative long term side effects from the WLS. Could be - but I also could get that if I stayed obese.
Or develop new issues, linked - caused to obesity.
At the point in my life, being obese, was making me miserable. In years before RNY I did so much yo-yo dieting that I vocou no longer lose the weight when I really tried. It felt me me that WLS may give me a chance for a more normal life.

Today? Lol. I have IBS-C,most likely due to SIBO, leaky gut syndrome, food allergies.
I had 4 abdominal surgeries, after RNY and losing weight, I needed 4 surgeries, one to remove GB and fix hernia. The next 3 were just for hernias.
My pancreas has cysts, they appear after I lost weight. I did not have them before RNY. I probably have adult onset neosidoblastosis. Probably. Because we jus****ch it. Biopsy is not recommend. It can cause more problem.
But then I had issues with digestion and BM before RNY. And hernias showed up after I lost all the fat, do most likely the openingd were there, just covered with fat, and probably caused by me being fat.
The last hernia were probably due to skin removal surgeries after I got skinny.

I had Peterson's space hernia (internal hernia). It opened after the first repair, so I had 2 surgeries for one hernia. I had another small internal hernia and twisted intestine.
The last surgery - after I lost a lot of wrweig, and I got a very low body fat%, I noticed 2 incisional hernias. They become visible when I lost almost all my fat under my skin.
One, groin hernia caused a lot of pain that radiated down my leg. After that was fixed, I no longer had that pain.
What ever was going to happen can happen.
Be prepared for the worse, expect the best. IMO - 99% of people have complication free post op WLS as long as they follow requirements.
