Vitamin recommendations?
I'm currently 10 days out from surgery and started my vitamins the very next day after I went home from the hospital. I'm taking the bariatric fusion chews. 4 per day everyday. I was told by my dietitian that these vitamins had everything I needed in them and I wouldn't have to take anything else in addition. So I figured that would be my easiest option in regards to keeping up with what all I need to take.
Well, I am having a very difficult time getting these down. The taste really isn't horrible. They are the mixed berry flavor, but I think it's the texture that is making it hard for me. They are just very chalky and make me gag every time I try to get one down. They also leave a lingering aftertaste that isn't very pleasant. I'm constantly chasing them down with water or juice just to get the taste out of my mouth and to make it more bearable. It's gotten to the point where I dread taking them. I got a months supply which I will suck up and finish. I just can't imagine taking these for the rest of my life. Can bearly hack a month!
I was thinking maybe a gummy vitamin would work better for me? I don't know though. What do you guys recommend? What doesn't taste so bad? Also, whatever multivitamin I choose, what other vitamins will I need to take with it? I'm also looking for something that isn't too expensive if possible. Right now the vitamins I take are about $30 per month. So would prefer not to go over that and preferably something cheaper if possible.

If you are just talking multi vitamins, I take two Centrum silver a day. I spend way less than $30 per month lol. I have also taken the Kirkland brand multi too.
Zero need to take anything "bariatric"
I'm peturbed that your dietician is telling you you'd never need to take anything else. I'll take her recommendation on a medical crystal ball if she has one!

I take two Kirkland (Costco brand) multis a day. I also supplement vitamin C and iron, as well as calcium citrate.
I don't think I'd accept that you'll "never have to take anything else" regardless of what vitamins you use. Malabsorption has different results for all of us. I was never told to supplement anything besides my multis, but I do because my iron has always tended toward low even before surgery, and as women, were more prone to need the calcium as well.

I don't think my dietitian meant I'd never have to take any other vitamins for the rest of my life....I don't know though.....maybe she did. I just know during the mandatory nutrition meeting I had to attend, she mentioned that with the bariatric fusion vitamins, they took care of everything and if we chose to go with those we would not have to take anything else. At my pre-op when I met with her, I brought up the vitamins again to clarify if those were all I had to take if I chose to go with that brand? I wanted to make sure I understood her correctly because I am completely green when it comes to vitamins and which ones I will need etc. She again told me yes....that was all I needed to take.
So I don't know? I'm so confused. I mean I know before surgery I was low in vitamin D so they started me on that before surgery and told me as soon as I started taking the bariatric fusion I could stop taking the vitamin D. I was also taking an iron vitamin because at one point I was told I was anemic....was also taking magnesium and a b-12, but was told I could stop all of these once I started taking the bariatric fusion because it covered all the bases. So that's what I've done.
I'm going to look into different ones though.
I'm a Centrum Silver girl as well (or the Walgreens or CVS equivalent). I started with the chewable version and now take the regular tablets. Two of those have about the same amount of vitamins/minerals as those pricey bariatric vitamins.

I also take D3, K2, B-Complex, Calcium Citrate, iron, and vitamin C (because of the iron). Oh - and a megadose of B12 every three weeks.
My nutritionist told to take vitamins only 5 weeks post op after my check up. I don't know why? I live in europe, there is almost no vitamins etc for bariatric oatiens. So she told me to get prenatal(pregnancy) vitamins Elevit which is multivitamins and iron in one. Also Calcium citrate, and Vitamin D. Again there is only a powder of calcium citrate it tastes awful but I mix it with some lemon juice and water and that does it. Vitamin D she was very specific, she told me to get this liquid formula wich carries vitamin D in liposomic form. Anyway, I feel like it is quite standard, although i wish I would find a brand that sells in Europe for my calcium, as majority is carbonate and I am not sure if that is acceptable for us?

the AMSBS (American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons) recommends 200% of the RDA ( recommended daily allowance) of all vitamins/ minerals.
If what you are taking gives you that ,you are good to go. If not,you will need to change it up until what you are taking what gives you that.
