How many days after surgery can I return to work? I have a desk/computer job.

I'm a teacher and I took 3 weeks off. I could have gone back after two weeks but my doctor wouldn't sign off on that. She wanted me out 4 weeks so we compromised. Really, you should talk to your doctor because everyone has a different experience with this surgery. Good luck!

My doctor wanted me to take 3 months. When I decided on taking 1 month off, the hospital wrote me a sick note for 6 weeks. I think doctor's want you to take extra time in case of complications.

I have a desk job as well. I took half week off and then did very light work from home for another week (checking emails and an occasional conference call). As part of my surgery I had a liver biopsy, which isn't a laparoscopic procedure, and that gave more pain than my RNY.

At age 52 and in poor health, here is how it slow-rolled for me: the first week was hospital time, the second week was concentrating on sipping/walking/sleeping, the third week was trying but failing at normalcy, and the fourth week was the first hint of, "I made it. I can do this." IMO, three weeks to recover, learn, and adjust seems ideal.

I had a desk job as well (I'm now retired). I took three weeks off but could have gone back after two. I'm kind of glad I had that third week, though, since I was I was eating pureed foods by then and experimenting with what I could tolerate. I was also still pretty tired most of the day.

I took two weeks off but had restrictions on lifting anything heavier than 5 pounds for about a month.

Felt exhausted that first week back at work but compensated by going to bed early each night. I experienced no post-surgical pain or complications, so I felt very fortunate.
