Howdy everyone,

I have been gone from here for a while. Been traveling extensively. For those *****member, I am a travel agency owner. I am revision sleeve to bypass. So here is the thing....months ago I stopped weighing myself. I got as low at 149 from a high of 350. So more than 200 pounds. That being said, I looked like dog poo. So I went to Australia in October/Nov, went to DC and now heading to South America. I ate a lot at xmas and did not make the healthiest choices. My new years resolution was to eat clean again.

I have been convinced that I gained weight and I was out of control. I thought I felt like I was at the top of my medium shirts and size 10 pants... ( I carry my weight on the bottom) not the top.

So I went shopping today to buy clothes. Medium shirts are hanging off me. They fit, but look slightly large. My pants which were mediums and 10's were too big. I bought a size 8 dress for my upcoming cruise. Apparently I am not gaining weight.

I still plan on eating clean until the cruise (ketoish) but to be honest, people keep saying how small I am and if I get smaller, I will look like a bobblehead. LOL

Is it wrong not to want to get on the scale as long as I am maintaining? I have spent my whole life on the scale everyday getting upset with half pound gains and freaking out. It was so cool to not have to do that. I am a year and a half out from surgery and I have been maintaining for 8 months.

A year and a half out from surgery is not very far, weight loss is still possible. And if you've lost more you are not maintaining.

What reason would you have for not wanting to step on the scale? That is what worries me. Sounds like you want to turn a blind eye to your weights free fall, and if it's get to an unhealthy range you'd rather not know so you won't have to deal with it. That's sounds like some level of mind/body mental connection disorder. Keep in mind malnutrition can set in long before you even look gaunt.

My two cents step in a scale and check on your blood work.

Hi,

I did step on the scale yesterday. I weighed 148.6. So despite the fact that I thought I was gaining, I actually lost weight but hardly anything which to me would be maintaining. Honestly I was afraid I got fatter and definitely in denial. I am getting labs done later this month. I did not have insurance for 4 months last year and now I have great insurance. My last labs were done in May/June 2018 so I am not that behind on labs. I take my vitamins, iron and calcium diligently. If there is a lab imbalance it will most likely be iron since my iron drops due to lupus/sjogrens syndrome. And yes, I definitely have a body dysmorphia issue.

Hey Peachpie,

Actually thought I was gaining and yup, afraid of regain not losing. Getting labs done at end of month. I have insurance now which I did not have last 4 months prior. BB

I was still losing weight during year 2 (slowly - but it was still coming off). Now I gain weight really easily if I don'****ch it like a hawk. I can only speak for myself, but I know from past experience, if I don't weigh myself frequently, I start gaining, and it can get out of control really quickly.

After surgery I had to eat to stop losing weight. In year 2 I did not want to lose, but I was losing. I couldn't eat enough to maintain. It was free for all. Year 3 and 4 changed that. And since I was out of habit weighing myself and monitoring what and how much I ate, I was gaining weight. Not in a healthy way.

The only advice I can give you is not to what I did. What was worse, once I was in a weight gaining mode, I had a hard time to stop the trend. I hope you would monitor just enough to catch that and not gain past some "magic " number. Good luck.

This right here is one of the main reasons why I love OH! I had no idea that our bodies would still consistently lose weight (assuming you are on a reasonable eating plan of course) throughout the second year. This could be a big factor into that bounce back regain most experience. They set their maintenance calories and eating habits once they reach goal sometime in their first or second year, but they're actually eating too much to maintain once bypass effects wear off starting year 3. Isn't year 3 when most bounce back anyways?

If this is the case, maybe you can find a compromise? Like weighing yourself once a month? That way you can catch it when the weight loss truly stops but you aren't weighing enough to obsess over it.

Best of luck and congratulations on your journey so far

I was at the same place when I was 18 months out. I had to eat close to 3000 calories a day to maintain. When I hit about the 2 year mark, things changed. I gained around 10 pounds in a short amount of time. I had to drastically cut back my calories to maintain.

If your clothes start to get tight, I would definitely get on the scale. Have you had a dexa scan to determine your body fat percentage? Determine what your measure of "healthy" is. Do not let people bully you into gaining weight because they convince you you look "too thin". It may be hard to stop.

You are still in your honeymoon period. Things may change down the line. Never get complacent.

I did the same thing during year three. Then had some doctor appointments and got weighed monthly. First time was a five pound gain. I laughed.

In another month the five had become ten. Still not concerned.

When I hit twenty pounds of regain - in four months, I started taking it seriously again. I get on the scale every single day now.

The rebound period after RNY happens between year two and three.
