I went for an information session to Humber River Hospital in Nov 2018 and am waiting for the first appointment with the Surgeon. Does anybody have experience from Humber River hospital? how was it? are they different Drs? is there anyone better?

I had my surgery there last month. It was fantastic. Dr. Huynh was my surgeon and he was amazing. It's a great hospital (considered the best in Canada).

It's a Bariatric Centre of Excellence, so there are multiple surgeons there.

Thanks and congratulation on your weight loss. how did you bring your weight down from highest to surgery date? only with Optifast?

Thanks! From August 1st to November 21st (November 21St is when I started Optifast), I was largely following the healthy plate model that they laid out in the book they give you at Humber. I dropped a fair bit of weight that way.

Then when I did optifast, I lost some more weight as well, but most of it came off due to the lifestyle change I had made prior.

Good reminder, I have to get back to the book.Do we get weighted any more forOHiP? Because my BMI is 40 now and what if I drop weight and my BMI change? Will they say you are not eligible anymore?

Once you get in and receive your initial weigh in and go to the consultation and receive the book and all that, my understanding is that they WANT to see you losing weight because it means that you are adopting the lifestyle changes that will make you more successful before and after surgery. Also, you are less likely to have surgery related complications if you can lose weight prior.

I wouldnt worry about losing weight once you are in the program. You SHOULD be trying to change your lifestyle, eating habits, exercise patterns, etc. As a result of that, the expectation is that you would likely lose weight as a result. I don't think it would disqualify you from the program. :)
