I am laying in bed now, drinking coffee and doing my maintenance routine, better known as watching My 600 Pound Life. It is the Scared Straight for WLSers.

Today my plan is to get all of the Christmas stuff put away and the house cleaned. Most of the stuff is packed up, so it is just a matter of getting it stored, and the wreaths and garlands down from outside. It is recycle day tomorrow, so that is critical. My office is a disaster, so I need to tackle that too.

Plus a day of chasing my cat Layla around the house so I can give her antibiotics and pain meds. She has been sick since New Years Eve when I was in the vet ER with her for 7 hours. I heard from the Vet today about the test results I was waiting for. She does not have cancer (yay!), but has a deep MERSA type of infection. Luckily, the antibiotic she is currently on is the right one, but this is going to take a long time to clear up. At least another 2-3 weeks of meds. Poor baby.

I was at my friend's house yesterday that had RNY and just had her second round of plastics (back and lower body lift). My other RNY friend was with me, and we got some meals prepped for her and her Dad, did some home maintenance, and got her in and out of her compression pants so she could shower. It was pretty funny to see the two of us strapping her into those pants and dealing with drains. It takes a village.

Even at only a week out, she looks fantastic. Her results are going to be spectacular.

Accountability: i am dealing with some regain and have vowed to lose it. I am taking it one day at a time. I have been picture perfect for the last two days. Yay. This is day 3 and it will be another perfect day, darn it.

QOTD 1: I do not understand you mushroom haters. I love them. I could be a vegetarian if mushrooms had tons of protein.

I hate ice cream. Hate it! Everyone loves it so much, but it makes me gag. I am actually not sorry about hate it, because I like everything else. Too much.

QOTD 2: I wear a lot of hats in the winter. I have a whole basket full of knit beanies. It rains a lot in the winter here in a Portland, and I hate to carry an umbrella. I wear hats instead. My hair is straight, so hat hair isn't much of a problem for me.

Hi Maryann - I am so glad Layla is cancer-free! Curious question - is she an inside cat? I always wonder how inside animals pick up infections since they don't interface with any other animals! Sometimes our Chloe seems "sick" like she has watery eyes or even sneezes and I just think how the heck does an inside cat with five human family members get a cold :)

Layla is an indoor cat, and an only child. She was diagnosed severe acne, which is apparently a chronic condition that is more common in dogs. The hair follicles can get infected, which is apparently what happened here. I didn't know that was even possible. The Vet said that the condition can wax and wane, so she can be prone to issues for the rest of her life. They suggested getting her under the care of an animal dermatologist. I wonder if they can administer Botox to humans? A two fer.

Poor Layla has zits!!! Love the idea of a two fer...

We both have cats that are more like dogs ;) My cat just had a $550 surgery to remove a fatty tumor that are VERY normal in dogs and very rare in cats. The vet thought it might be cancerous since fatty tumors are so rare, but nope, almost $600 later...it was a lump of fat. Sigh...she's worth it though.

Cats who periodically seem a little sick with watery eyes and sneezing have an upper respiratory virus (or occasionally an upper respiratory bacterial infection). My cat Mia had this as a kitten when I first got her, and she was extremely ill. She recovered, thank goodness, though it was touch and go. Ever since, from time to time, that virus makes a reappearance. She had all of her early shots before I got her at 12 weeks, but evidently picked this up prior to her shots, at the cattery in which she was born. Now and again she will be under the weather for a bit with runny eyes, sneezing, etc. It's opportunisic, the way that viruses are, and tends to emerge when for one reason or another her immune system is under stress, poor girl. It is communicable to other (unvaccinated) cats if they are around each other during an oubreak, and can actually be fatal to weakened cats or young kittens. The shots should be periodically re-administered by a vet to keep even those cats who already have contracted the virus safer. Your cat may have had this before you got her, like my little Mia.

Gosh I wish i hated ice cream! LOL
