So I got the call today from my surgeons office that I have been approved for surgery. I will have the RNY surgery on the 23rd of this month. I'm excited and nervous all at once. Feels like I've been waiting so long for this from having insurance that wouldn't cover it and having to finally find another job that now has insurance coverage then having to go through the application process all over again and meet all of the requirements of the bariatric program etc. And now it's finally here!

Thanks to everyone who has given me such awesome encouragement and offered advice when needed! I don't post on here too often, but when I did I always received super helpful feedback. You guys are amazing!! I'm sure I will be posting a lot more now that my journey is just beginning. Hope you don't get tired of me. Lol.

Thanks again and I am so looking forward to start losing this weight!

Thanks all!!

I won't lie, I'm getting really nervous. But I'm more excited than anything and ready to get it over with!

I've heard so many different stories of people's experiences with the actual surgery part. Some say it was the easiest surgery ever and wasn't painful at all and then I hear other people say it was pretty darn painful. I've only ever had one surgery in my life and it was an open abdominal surgery. It wasn't bad at all really that I can recall. The only thing that stands out as not being the most fun was having my vitals go wacky and being rushed to radiology for a ct because they thought I had a blood clot....was soooo painful having to arrange my body on that very skinny table and lie flat after just being cut open, then having my vein blow and the contrast going all over me. I'm just a big baby when it comes to needles. Didn't help much when I found out I had to give myself daily luvenox injections in my stomach after being sent home. Oh and lack of sleep for weeks because I'm a stomach sleeper and the throwing up. Ugh!

Other then that it wasn't horrible, so I'm hoping with this one being laparoscopic it maybe won't be as painful? The bariatric surgeon was very impressed with how well my scar healed from my last surgery though. I trust this doctor. He comes highly recommended and has done thousands of surgeries. So I know I'll be in good hands.

Sorry I'm babbling! I guess it's the nerves! Lol. No matter how nervous I get though I know it will all be worth it! Have my pre-op next Thursday and already have my list of last minute questions to ask....and believe me it's quite a list! Lol. Thanks again guys!

It sounds like you've had a relatively good experience previously so it's hopeful you will again! I was most concerned with being sick coming out of the anesthesia since it makes me really sick. I made sure to discuss my concerns with the anesthesiologist and they took great care of me!

Yes! That is something I will need to discuss at my pre-op because I got really sick from the anesthesia after my last surgery. Could not keep anything down. This went on for a couple days after I went home as well so I'm hoping they can give me something so I don't wake up sick again.

It actually sickens me to look at my stats right before that surgery and then right after and compare it to now. The surgery was to remove a large ovarian cyst along with one of my ovaries which was too far damaged. According to my doctor, the cyst itself weighed 50 pounds. (Which explains why I was walking around looking 9 months pregnant!) Before surgery I was 313 lbs and then when I was weighed after surgery I was 237 lbs. I've gained all that weight back and then some!! Makes me sooo mad! But hopefully this surgery can help me lose again and keep it off!

Well I may not get to have my surgery afterall. I was told by my supervisor today that I don't qualify for fmla until I've been with the company for at least a year (which I knew). And that if I choose to go ahead with the surgery that I may not have a job when I return since they already have two people out on surgery and another who quit so they are extremely short staffed.

It's just one road block after another for me it seems. I couldn't hold back the tears. It must not be meant for me to get this surgery.

Truly, laparoscopic vs. open is MUCH EASIER (I've had both). I only took 2 weeks off, but could have been back in a week if I absolutely had to (desk job). What kind of work do you do?
