Hi Meat Menu Makers! Happy New Year! How is everyone?

We got a dumping of snow yesterday here, first of the season, my dogs (Labs) are beyond happy, they pretty much want to be out 24/7 rolling in the snow, eating the snow and just having doggie fun in the snow!

Accountability: Well hell you guys, I have been on a holiday food bender since about Dec 15th and it has to STOP. I feel bloated and just generally like crap. Its not rocket science but if I eat crap I feel like crap. So its time to hit the protein hard, bye bye craps & sugar!

QOTD: Depending on where you are in your post op WLS life how do you feel about your decision to have WLS? If you are pre op how are you feeling? I am now 5 yrs post op RNY. I count my lucky stars every day that I got a chance to have this surgery, make the friends I did here on OH and get to goal and stay at goal. The five years have not been easy, for me year 1-3 were hard emotionally. All the body changes, all the constant discussion about my weight and size from family/friends. Now at 5 yrs post op, its just life, I look and act like a normie. Best decision I ever made and wish I did it 10 years sooner than I did!

Time since surery: 5 yrs & 2 mos

B: 8 cups of decaf coffee with vanilla PP used as creamer, then can of solid white tuna with balsamic dressing

L: 2 slices of over roasted turkey breast with 2 slices of swiss cheese + mustard

S: 1/2 cup of cottage cheese & 1/2 cup of strawberries

D: 4oz of turkey taco meat with salsa & avocado

S: activia yogurt & 1 tbsp of special K protein cereal on top

TOTALS: 929 calories, 133 protein, 44 carbs

V: patches are on (multi, iron, Vit D & Calcium) Oral B12

E: 10 km hike with the dogs in the snow

Hi Daisy! Good to hear from you. I hope you are feeling well these days. We are leaving Massachusetts and returning to Florida tomorrow. Though I am looking forward to it I will miss everyone here. And I kind of wish we'd had more than the brief dusting of snow we had on Christmas Eve morning! Justice was intrigued by it and it would have been fun to see what our little Florida pup thought of a few inches of the fluffy stuff.

QOTD: At almost 3 years out, I am still more than thrilled that I was able to have WLS and regain my health. I too will be forever grateful to OH as I certainly wouldn't have been so successful without all my friends here. It does surprise me now when someone comments on how "skinny" I am, as my Florida friends never saw me any other way so it only happens here periodically.

2 Years 9 months post-op (maintaining below goal for 2 years, 1 month)

Safe Travels Liz! I love that Mr Justice got to experience his first snow, how fun!

I am glad you stay here on OH and post your menu, help others and made friends, it really is a great place/group to be a part of, all of us "get it" and to me that is so important.

Hi all

3 posts for today??? I will just answer all the questions in one go

QOTD 1: I'm officially over 3 years out. Yes I did gain between year 2-3. I had it in my head that I absolutely would not gain ANY weight. I'm finally getting OK with that. I looked back at my pics from me at 118 pounds and I'm not really sure I want to go back there- BUT I can improve my body strength wise and over the past year have gained over 6 pounds of lean muscle mass. and would ideally like to end up somewhere between 135-145. So- I'm not DONE scale wise. I am a work in progress!

QOTD 2: I bought some apple pectin fiber at the health food store along with psyllium husk to put in my prot pancakes. helps and I don't have to take miralax- put my spag squash in IP last nigth with curry and a can of rotel- took the squash out and added it back into mix and pureed it- man is it yummy.

food for today:

turkey with curry spag squash mix

chicken wings leftover with the squash mix

sugar snap peas

water

coffee

not sure what else.

Hillary I am so proud of you for being so open & honest with yourself and us here on OH about your regain and how you are dealing with it. I hope there everyone on OH, the posters and lurkers read your statement and memorize it "I had it in my head that I absolutely would not gain ANY weight." That to me is profound because we see a lot of very naive newbies who think they can eat a ton of carbs and sugar and drink alcohol before they are even close to goal and then freak out when the Vets try to advise them/warm them of what a slippery slope it is.

My PSA: Living life post WLS is not easy, its not the easy way out, its takes a hell of a lot of dedication, education and mental & emotional strength to battle our food addictions. Don't ever get complacent and ****y, listen to the Vets who have gone before you, they know there **** and truly want everyone to be successful!

Hillary I will tell you what I see when I see your pics or posts, you are beautiful, strong, and have amazing resolve. Many people would have thrown in the towel after regain, said F it and just continued to gain and blame their surgery as "not working." You come here daily, post your protein forward menu and keep battling your food addition, kudos to you girl, very proud of you

AWWW thanks! that made me cry !!

I thought this last year was going to be the end of me actually many times between a 'new' house where everything has broken, 1 income, killer bears, two pups put to sleep, another one almost dying from snake bite. that and whether I will have a job this year after 18 years with the company.

This is some hard stuff! I read and read these posts early out with people regaining and said, that would NEVER be me. I have this LICKED! haha boy was I naive.

Morning all! It's a dreary day here but I'd like to get out for a 4+ mile walk today at lunch. It really does help to clear my head and give me energy to get through the afternoon.

I am trying to refocus on the basics, more protein, less coffee & more water, and of course, lowering the carbs. I am losing, which is reassuring, and will hopefully make it back to 117 in the next week or two or three...

QOTD: I am 1 year, 10 months & 6 days post RNY. I have been maintaining (more than 130 # loss) for more than 14 months. Honestly WLS has been a life saver and I can't believe how life has changed in the last 2 years. I am no longer treated for diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and asthma, and I am able to be active in ways that I've never been able to in my whole adult life. That said, every day I make hard choices to live a healthy life, to eat well, to exercise, to deal with life in healthy ways rather than eating a Family size bag of Cheetos! It truly is a tool and not magic. I would DW to have surgery but I'm not sure that she could keep the weight off and that is key!

Menu:

B: 2 HB eggs, 5 cashews (with my morning meds) & 2 cups of black coffee

S: Chomps

L: hopefully fish & salad from the cafeteria

S: salmon jerky, small apple

D: I'd like to have steamed shrimp since I've eaten all of the leftover beef roast

Exercise: a walk at lunch

Janet I love how dedicated you are to your post op life. I could not agree more that getting out during a work day for a walk/run etc is so important and it really does clear my head as well and seems to make the afternoon go faster.

My PSA to you: You are still under two years post op RNY, you still most likely have some malabsorption happening and losing a few pounds of regain is super easy now. If you truly want to stay at 117 lbs reign in the off plan eating now. Regain can always be lost if a person goes back to basics (protein forward, low carb) but after year 3 losing 5 lbs can take weeks! I am telling you this from some of the Vets who I talk off line with that have had regain and their "tool" still works but it is so much harder and takes so much longer to get the weight off. I have said it before and I will continue to say it, MAINTENANCE IS A *****. For me personally in year 3 all my cravings came back, my appetite came back, my pouch matured and I can eat larger quantities if I let myself and it feels like I am in a constant daily battle to stay on plan and eat protein forward. The Struggle is real!

Now having said all that, I think you are highly SUCCESSFUL! You are someone who "gets it" and not only posts here for yourself but you help others here by telling them what has worked for you and what you have learned, and that is awesome! Keep up the awesome work Janet! Its great you are part of our OH family
