5 year surgiversary - life is better, but food is still a struggle...
That's the thing...not to be all doom and gloom about this, but for me, first it was 5 pounds above my goal, then 10, then 12...and I still felt good and most of my jeans could zip so I was cool with it and then BAM I was where I am now. Sigh...I wish I had reigned it in then...but my thought was, "Do I want to work that hard to lose 5 lbs" and I guess my answer was "no". Since you're still here everyday and measuring and tracking your food, I think you're setting up lifelong habits for success, and I am proud of you!
But here's the struggle too. A small bounce back is normal and not necessarily regain. That is why so many vets say get below goal. We all think we are the person who won't have bounce back... but reality is- we probably will. It is figuring out the difference between what is OK and what is just denial. It is hard.

Please consider bounce back is not a given. Thinking that gives our heads permission to believe that and it truly is not true. Self vigilance was and is not by any means my favorite thing but I do know I must not give my mind room to weasel. Period. Surgery unfortunately does not operate on our heads.

You will discover a sense of empowerment and peace you have never before experienced. You will come to believe you can overcome your challenges and find some joy in this world." Katie Jay
I am not talking bounce back that takes you back to being obese. There is a range of normal. Even friends of mine who have never been overweight in their lives- have a range of normal. They are not exactly the same weight all the time.

You nailed it Em. In year one and three and now five. This is what WLS is really like - plenty of ups and downs and sideways moments. All we can do is stay flexible yet vigilant so that we don't find ourselves lost in our food addictions as time goes on...
You have given so much to so many here over these 5 years -and your success has been a part of my own. Thank you for all you give back. I am happy to a part of the awesome 2013 WLS Vet Club!
Congrats my friend - you are amazing!
Awww thanks Ashley! The 2013 club is a great one, for sure! I love that you still hang around and help people out, especially sharing your revision surgery. You have helped calm a lot of nervous and scared people. And your weight loss and ability to maintain inspire me for sure.
When people see your family pics and think you are your son's sister, you must be so proud of how healthy and incredible you look!!! XOXO
