Hello all. Thanks for being awesome!
Hey everyone. I've been following this forum for a couple of months now while I've been going through the initial process for RNY. I had the EGD scope yesterday and my surgery is set for next Monday, December 10! I've been a big guy since I was young. I am very excited at the possibilities that having surgery is going to open up for me. I have 3 children (12, 3, and 1), and am excited to be more active for them. I worry a bit about not keeping up with it after the honeymoon. I am going to do my best to build good habits. I've always been an over-eater, so I think the restriction will be just what I need.
Anyways, thank you all for sharing your stories. It has helped me immensely. I feel better prepared for what is to come.

Good luck! You have chosen the healthy life style. Don't go in thinking you might blow it after the honeymoon, go in saying this is my reset button and I will be successful. It means learning new habits, liking new foods and working out. You can do this and your children will benefit from it too.
Keep us posted and feel free to join the daily menu thread when you feel up to it.

Good luck PeteC on your upcoming surgery. I'm new to this forum too and I'm having my surgery 2 days after you - December 12th. I'm on the optifast shakes right now and not really enjoying this part of the process simply because I don't really like the taste of the shakes :). I too am worried about after the honeymoon phase as I've been able to loss significant weight before (80 lbs twice) but couldn't maintain it. I think though that the threat of "dumping syndrome" will help me to not eat foods that aren't good for me (my trigger foods). Anyway, good luck and let us know how you are doing from time to time

Sheila_H - thanks for the words of encouragement. That's a very true statement about staying positive, which is definitely something I needed to hear. Thank you.
ChrisFB - That's awesome! I start diet tomorrow. I still get 1 small meal per day though so I don't think it will be too bad. Good luck to you!!
Hello again. Surgery went well! Pre op was smooth except when I got on the operating table and they put the o2 mask on, I had problems breathing out of it but I passed on shortly after so I guess it went well! Then waking up post op in the recovery room was a bit nerve wracking. It was hard to catch my breath because of all the air in my cavity. I also had some back pain from the hard table i guess but couldn't really move to make it feel better. It was pretty short lived though and after about half an hour things were back to smooth sailing.
Doc said surgery went great. He also sewed shut a hiatal hernia that was bulging out a few inches above my belly button that had been causing me some pain over the past year or so.
My wonderful wife stayed with me last night in the hospital. Had a bunch of ice chips and then started drinking water at 6am today. I've been keeping down water just fine. Had some chicken broth and tried a beneprotein with water. So overall about 75 ounces of liquids and 20 grams of protein so far. I'll be discharged soon and will try and get in a premiere protein at home to get that protein number up. I'd say the most painful part now is the hernia stitch and incision. I'm off wor****il Dec 27 which is freakin awesome! Time to get to work drinking water and protein!
Welcome Pete to OH and congratulations to living life as it was meant to be lived We are so glad things went well. We are here for you and best advice is to take it one day at a time and listen to your body and tool and make the adjustments you need. We are all different and YOU GOT THIS!
Looking forward to your updates.
Regards,
Kathy
