Mornin'!

we woke up to snow on the ground - but less than an inch, and it's not supposed to snow anymore today. YAY! So I may meet my mother for coffee later this morning. I'm also meeting a friend for dinner tonight at a Mexican place near my house. I usually get two tacos (those small, authentic Mexican ones with just the meat), but since I'm watching carbs this week, I may get a fajita and just eat the meat & veggies (or part of them, anyway - about a cupful).

so one friend wants me to go to India with her in October for a yoga retreat, and another wants me to go to Costa Rica with her in Feb for her 60th birthday. I really can't do both (really, after the home improvements, getting the new (to us) car last summer, and the plastic surgery, I can't afford to do *either*, but getting away for a few days might be good for me, so I'll at least CONSIDER something....). Problem is, Costa Rica isn't really on my shortlist of places to go, and this friend is really into nature vacations, and I'm more of a city person. Do I want to spend a couple thousand bucks on something I'm not crazy about doing? As far as India goes, I'd love to see India, and a yoga retreat might be fun, but do I really want to spend $3000 going to India when I'll be doing yoga five hours a day in some remote retreat location? I can go to a yoga retreat here stateside for a lot less money - plus if I'm going all the way to India, I'd rather spend the time exploring India. Ugh. What to do....

Accountability - it's been great lately. Down 2 lbs since Monday. I was hoping I'd be down below 150 again by now (150.2 this morning), but 2 lbs down in three days is pretty excellent for someone in maintenance...

QOTD: this no longer applies since I'm retired, but we had a pretty flexible sick policy. We got 10 sick days a year (vacation days were separate from that). We didn't have to call in - we'd just put on our electronic calendars that we were out that day due to illness. However, if we were scheduled to teach that day or had a shift at the reference desk, we had to let the instruction coordinator (or reference coordinator) know ASAP so they could arrange for coverage. Usually we just sent an email to the whole staff, though, in case the respective coordinator wasn't in yet - coverage was often taken care of that way even before the coordinator got into (or back to) their office! Our staff was really good for covering for each other when things came up.

3 years 5 months out:

B: homemade Greek yogurt, raspberries

MS: coffee with half & half, protein shake

L: 3 oz turkey (if we have enough left! Otherwise I'll have a cup of my homemade cottage cheese (first attempt at making it - thanks, Liz!!)

AS: carbmaster yogurt. Or protein pumpkin pie.

D: fajita (meat & veggies only)

Maybe see if your friend going to india wants to meet up for some exploration and then you come back and she goes to the retreat?

this is a trip some yoga instructor friend of hers put together. The instructor grew up in India so she knows the area where the retreat will be. She is offering an optional four-day "pre-retreat" tour of New and Old Delhi, as well as Agra (the Taj Mahal), and then she has two weeks' worth of optional excursions after the retreat. So there is the option to explore - but I don't like being away from home that long (10 days to two weeks is about all I can manage - so that would be basically the retreat plus probably the four-day "pre-retreat"), and then there's the cost - otherwise, I'd do all of that since that way I'd get my exploration needs in, too. As far as exploring on my own and meeting up with her after the retreat - I've definitely gone to places (e.g. in Europe) by myself or with DH on my/our own (not with a group or with a structured tour), but not sure how easy that would be in India. It seems like one of those places where you'd be better off as part of a group...although, I'm not sure. Anyone been there?

I went to India about 10 years ago - two weeks with another girlfriend and another week with two more girlfriends joining us. We were harassed pretty regularly - nothing dangerous, but things like being touched, stared at, photographed, followed, and taken by rickshaws to different places than we had said we wanted to go to since they get a "tip" from said hotel. All in all, I would not travel by myself. Not because I think I would be killed, but it just wouldn't be very pleasant. It's an incredible country of kind people, amazing sights, and delicious food....but, you will stand out and there is a lot of poverty and people will inevitably see you as a source of dollars which means you probably don't want to go alone. That was my experience, but others' may vary!

yea - I definitely would not want to bum around there by myself. I've been to some similar places in Africa and Southeast Asia - and China. It's better to go with a group.

Oh yeah, sadly, I wouldn't recommend a woman do India alone. There are many places I would be comfortable going alone but more than a few Imd only go with a small group of friends or an actual group tour.

I'd vote for India and a shorter yoga retreat so you can explore.
