he has a bachelor's in Journalism and a PhD in political science. He does a lot of research on public opinion. Anyway, he'll be talking about the current polarization and "fake news" thing

That will be an interesting topic! I'm jealous. I feel like the recent attack on freedom of press is putting us in a dangerous situation, regardless of political affiliation.

I am with you on the early morning, I turned off the light at 210 and turned it back on at 629. Stupid full bladder and empty tummy!

today I get to hang with my sister so I'm not sure what we are doing but we'll have fun. There has to be a pedicure in there somewhere! Being out here in the middle of nowhere should make it possible to see the Leonids tonight so I'm going to try to make it til 2am for that, I checked when I got her last night but didn't see any (but the night Su itself was beautiful enough)!

qotd - great idea Cassie - and I bet there will be lots of interesting things!

1. Travel - the list of places I don't want to go is still much shorter than the places I want to go and I love all aspects -- the planning, the doing, the remembering!;

2. Space - I love all the space news (like Voyager 2 is starting to see the particle dip that means it's about to head out of the solar system - isn't that cool?).

3. Movies - I love them so much, I used to have a movie review website but ran out of time to keep it up. I still see them all though!

4. Museums - I love museums - I love them all, big/small/esoteric/general - I find so much to learn and enjoy! When I decided to I've back to Colorado, the first person I called was my volunteer team leader at Denver Museum of Nature and Science so he knew save a spot for me in january's Volunteer orientation so I can come back. I volunteered there for more than 10 years before I moved. (I started two years before their Space Odyssey exhibit opened because I was afraid they would have too many volunteers and figured if I was already there, they'd have to let me in! (I'm, see #2 above, lol))

5. Enthusiasm - I am really passionate that people have a thing they are excited about -- it doesn't have to be MY thing but everyone should have something! It keeps you engaged, gives you something to talk about, can instantly build commonality, etc. Enthusiastic people are interesting people!

menu today

b - deli roast beef

l - deli roast beef

d - filet and asparagus if we are out for dinner

hope you all have a spectacular Saturday!

Good morning~ Ridiculously happy it's Saturday! My plans are to shop, complete a few fix it projects around the house, organize the spare room (again), sort pictures for framing and deep clean the bathrooms. Feeling very nest-y lately. My son may be coming home next month w/his girlfriend and I want the house to be perfect. I just can't get Rob on board with hiring a cleaning person. He has no problem cleaning and doesn't see the point of paying someone else - but he is not a detailed, deep cleaner...ARG!

QOTD - In varying degrees at any given moment they are anything WLS/diet related, exercise, shopping, coffee, hiking, beach, music, movies, journaling, financial planning and paying bills (yes, literally done daily), organization and finding ways to make everyday things easier at home and work.

Accountability - great

Good morning, all. Like Amy Liz, I am ridiculously happy that it is the weekend. It was a long week with deadlines and late night conference calls. I don't have much planned today except to watch football and look at some tax issues for a family member who will be visiting for Thanksgiving.

I tried the Light and Fit pumpkin pie flavored - I thought it was really good. I may have one today.

QOTD: Travel, literature and history. I watch a lot of sports live and televised but I can't really say that I'm passionate about it. In fact sometimes I prefer to watch teams where I don't have a rooting interest. I have fallen in and out of love with golf a couple of times my life. Right now, I'm out.

Breakfast: boiled eggs, sausage

Snack: Light and fit

Lunch: Pork

Snack: SF pudding

Dinner: depends what the family is having. Leftover Pork if they are off plan.

Have a greatly, all.

Hello Everyone:

I ended up spending most of Friday semi-comatose. My drive home from work during our mini-blizzard took about 3.5 hours instead of 45 minutes. I waited until 7 PM to leave work instead of 5 PM hoping that the worst of the traffic would be over.

I even took a "short cut" for the last 7 miles home that took about another hour. When I got home, after driving on snowy, slippery streets, what happens? I pull into my driveway and my car gets stuck with half of its rear end in the street! I have all-wheel drive, but my car is low and the Condo handymen plowed in my driveway when they plowed the streets. At that point, I gave up. I left the car where it was, climbed out of the car into knee-high snow, went in the house, and went to bed!

It's so crazy. Today everything is almost back to normal. . . except all the bread and milk is sold out in the supermarkets!

QOTD: I have 2 passions and I hope the first one does not fall into the "pets" category.

  1. I am passionate about helping dogs and cats who don't have homes. The best way I can do this now is to volunteer my time and to donate to the local SPCA, the SPCA of Luzerne County in Pennsylvania. It runs solely on donations and the time of volunteers. It takes in all animals, even the ones that the other more elite rescue groups in the area won't accept. I have been volunteering there for almost 9 years. I have helped out at all of their Rabies Vaccine and Microchip Clinics for the past 5 years as the "official" person who fills the syringes with rabies vaccine for the veterinarian who volunteers his time at these clinics. I'm hoping to have more time as I near retirement so I can spend more time there walking the dogs who are in the shelter. They love to be able to get out of their cages. Recently, the SPCA had a wonderful pathway built on its property where we can take the dogs out to walk. Previously, we had to walk the dogs on the busy street where the shelter is located and that was anxiety-provoking for the pups.
  2. My other passion is playing the oboe. I have played oboe since I was in 3rd grade. At one point, when I was taking private lessons, I thought about majoring in music with the hopes of being an oboe player in an orchestra. It's an incredible experience being the instrument that all the other instruments tune to. I also love the melancholy sound of the oboe. Several years ago, I was very fortunate to find a used F Loree oboe in excellent condition on E-Bay, of all places. I am looking forward to restarting lessons again as soon as I can find a teacher.

MEALS FOR TODAY:

Breakfast: nonfat milk, SF chocolate syrup, protein powder supplement

Snack: skipped

Lunch: chili with melted cheese on top

Snack: L&F Greek yogurt

Dinner: I'm still trying to figure that out
