Gas Pains and Abdominal Cramping
Congrats on your revision!
I had my RNY in Nov 2001, the only things that caused me gas pains during the liquid phase was the broth and milk, even skim milk. Not even taking Lactaid helped with that! My doctor suggested that I add 2 additional servings of my protein shakes, HMR70 due to them not having any lactose in them, and mix with water instead, and to drink more water throughout the day.
Hello!,
As I mentioned in a previous post, I had a revision from VSG to RNY on 11/6. How long following surgery did your gas pains and cramping last? Aside from walking, what did you do to relieve the pain? Thanks!
at nearly 10 days out it is unlikely it is gas leftover from surgery. That is absorbed in two -3 days usually.
i also think it might be lactose intolerance. Stop all milk products for a few days and see if it helps.
Not sure which protein you are using but make sure it is whey protein isolate- that is the only one that is essentially lactose free, also if you are using milk Lactaid and fairlife are both lactose free. I prefer fairlife because it has more protein, less carbs. If you are using premier Protein that a lot of people use early on- that does have lactose.

thank you. As I reflect, I'm wondering if I just was trying to consume too much too fast. I feel markedly better. Still on clear liquids with protein shakes, but the pain is just about gone. I pulled myself back to clear liquids for a a day and a half, and I'm sure walking helped too.
