Revising from Band
I am in the process of revising to either bypass or sleeve. I was leaning towards sleeve, but the more I read the more I am hearing stories of people revising from sleeve to bypass.
Are you happy with your decision to have bypass? Do you have any regrets? Do you still miss the food you used to be able to eat or do you get past that?
Any input is appreciated. :)
RNY was the best decision I ever made. I shouldn't have waited as long as I did.
There's nothing I can't eat now, just things I should eat. If I gave too many simple carbs now, I feel like crap 10 minutes later. But it helps keep me in line.

Greetings.
I am a band(2006) to RNY(9/6/18). It has been the best decision I have made. I am down 60lbs and feel great. I sailed thru surgery with no issues other than post-op constipation (G-d bless Miralax). I decided on RNY because I felt that if I was going to do this again I was going for the most bang for my buck. So far NO regrets.
Best of luck.
I'm only a little way out from RNY, almost 9 months. Best thing I've ever done. The only thing I "can't" eat are things loaded with sugar, like ice cream, without being very sick. That being said, you can eat whatever you want...if you're ok with the consequences.

I am about a week short of my 17-month RnY surgiversary. I too was uncertain of which operation to have, and went back and forth with my thoughts many times. If you have GERD, your best option is RnY. I had a hiatal hernia with terrible heartburn - this was fixed during my RnY, thankfully. What really decided me was my neighbor, a wonderful woman who had had been sleeved a year or so earlier. She had lost perhaps 60 pounds of the 130 or so that she had to lose, and then just stopped losing. Though this I believe was due to inner conflicts she had with the changes weight loss would bring, and though many sleevers are successful in losing to goal and maintaining, I felt that the RnY was a surer bet for a more thorough loss: I really, really didn't want to go through surgery only to remain obese! I was willing to deal with the need for careful vitamin and mineral supplementation (and testing) throughout my life for the chance to reclaim my health, vitality, and looks. I am SO HAPPY I did this. I cannot say enough about what a difference this has made to me. This surgery really did give me back my life. I wasn't ready before, but yes, I now wish I had been, years earlier. I could not be more happy with my decision. On the other hand, RnY surgery is now so incredibly well mapped out and so much safer than it was long ago. You still have to have goals, resolve and determination, you still have to follow protocol, you still have to work on many things, not only your food intake, in order to be successful, but wow does it give you a huge shining door to walk through to a better life! Of course I am still just a newbie who has yet to enter maintenance, I haven't yet hit some of the challenges people face later on. The vets here who have been maintaining for many years are the ones to really listen to! Grim is one of them.
I am a band to bypass revision. I had horrible acid reflux and had gained back a lot of my weight because of 'eating around the band.' I am almost 10 months out and I am down almost 90 pounds. I guess I could 'get past' eating things if I wanted to feel sick all of the time. But I don't. I will occasionally have a bite of birthday cake or a taste of chocolate - but not enough to make me feel bad. I don't choose those foods anymore. I am super happy with my revision. I have zero reflux, I sleep better at night, I am 15 pounds from what I want for my goal, I am running again. I have no regrets - at all. I don't miss any foods. It's weird but my tastes have totally changed. I'd be happy to answer any specific questions if you would like.
You can't measure your achievements with someone else's yardstick!

Thank you everyone, I appreciate the responses! It makes me feel better about my decision to go bypass instead of sleeve hearing other people's success stories. I feel like if I'm going to revise, I should just go straight to bypass. I won't be having another WLS so I want to get it right this time!
There is really no food I can't eat if I am willing to deal with side effects, that may include: weight gain, gas, pain, dumping (I do not recommend), intestines cramping, and Reactive Hypoglycemia (RH). Or in my case, an allergic reaction.
The RH, I hate with passion. I don't like dumping, it is horrible, but I take dumping over really bad RH anytime. Fortunately for me, the foods that can cause all the unpleasant side effects, are often not recommended for an RNY person anyway. Some are not nutritionally bad, and some people don't have problem with, but in me they can cause a horrible gas, that sends me outside. Two times is more that enough for me to know what caused that gas and eliminate from my diet. Or limit to just a taste.

The RNY saved my life Look in detail what each surgery requires of you to be successful and then be honest with yourself if you can do it for the rest of your life. You will find your answer.... Good luck and keep us posted on what you decide. We are here for you no matter what choice you make

I wish my centre in Canada had allowed the sleeve, but they didn't. I'm still paranoid about the malabsorption. My doctor told me that the sleeve "doesn't work". Jeez Louise. I have RNY. I'm about 15 to 20 lbs away from goal. I'm a year out. I can virtually eat anything, but obviously not as much. Much to my chagrin, I can eat "bad" food quite easily like chips. But I don't feel good afterward. I had chips and chocolate (Halloween treats) as a mid morning snack and I was on the toilet. Not a good feeling. I've made bad choices, otherwise I would definitely have been at goal by now. If I had the choice, I would do the sleeve. Don't wanna worry about the malabsorption.
