Pregnant
Congratulations.
Do know that you will probably not have the weight loss that many experience during the honeymoon period after WLS (the first 6-12months). That is one of the reasons many surgeons tell their patients to wait at least a year or until they reach their goal weight before getting pregnant.
I'm sorry your surgeon did not inform you of the high chance of pregnancy right after WLS with just BC and tell you to use more than one form of protection.
Best of luck to you.
Thank you and yes I do realize that but it's not something I can focus on right now. My only concern is the baby's health right now. Trust me this was not a part of my plan. I was told to use a back-up method the first 7 days and I did but somehow it still happened.
I'm completely at a loss for words with this situation.
As long as you haven't had any complications with your WLS then you and your baby should be fine. Make sure your surgeon knows and as others have said get in to see an OB who specializes in high risk pregnancies. Take it one day at a time.
And who ever told you to only use a back-up method for the first 7 days should be slapped up side their head. The hormone dumping that happens due to the rapid weight loss lasts for several months.
Take a deep breath everything will be fine.
Everything with wl has been good so far. I called the surgeons office yesterday and they having me come in asap. I was told only seven day back-up required by the nurse that works along side the surgeons.
My OB is fully aware of my situation and called me yesterday cause I called the office again crying, trying to get in sooner. She provided some peace of mind last night. She said, "I will get you through this." Although I still find myself crying because I can't believe this happened, I'm trying to be positive and just focus all that towards getting proper nutrition in.
And I know some people will think I'm crazy for keeping the baby but when you lose a baby at 4 months pregnant (I did 2 years ago), you value the gift God gave you no matter how he gave it to you. It wasn't my plan but it was his and hopefully he lets me see it all the way through this time. I just gotta keep my head-up!
Saw my OB today and she said that this will require special and more thorough medical care but is completely doable and she has dealt with people like me before, including one that was only a month out from surgery.
She said I will continue to lose the weight while pregnant because the pregnancy will not change my new tiny stomach and that it's fine for the baby as well in the beginning because not much is needed. The problem will come during third trimester but we will work together to make sure both baby and I are healthy. My OB knows me for a long time and knows what I've been through in the past so she goes the extra mile, I love her.
I will be having my first sono in a few weeks to see if the baby implanted correctly and is developing. Right now she wouldn't be able to see anything because I'm too early on in the pregnancy.

That sounds very positive and that you have a good care plan in place. Well wishes to you!

I'm very glad that your OB is so supportive! I'm glad that she has worked with other WLS patients, including one who was very early on. It sounds like she is cognizant of your very special needs, and that she will go the extra mile for you and your baby. All in all, a relief!
Wishing you a healthy and successful pregnancy, and all the good in the world! I hope you that continue to participate here as well, and keep us posted.
Thank you! My OB is amazing! I found all my doctors from within the same network so most of their patients are seen for everything there. I did everything at the same place, Mental Health, Gastric Bypass, Cardiology, Lab work and now returning for OB. Now looking back, it's probably the smartest thing I did because she has dealt with this. I've been reading that not many OB's know how to deal with this situation.
