Halloween is the hardest day of the year for me. In pre-surgery days I would eat more than I would give out. Our neighborhood is one of those neighborhoods that attract kids, wide streets, all houses are decorated and it?s safe. I usually get four Costco size bags and by 8:00 pm the bags are all gone. So my worry is not so much any candy left home but how much I eat while giving out. But starting last year (4 months after surgery) I told myself I can have 1-2 and that would be it. And I stuck to it. This year I'm planning to entertain rather than being at the door. We shall see if it works.
Funny that most people are worried about thanksgiving and all the food, but for me Halloween is more of a temptation than Thanksgiving.

Good luck getting through the day! Not handing out the candy will probably help, you won't be so close to temptation!

Hi!
There are a lot of kids in my development. I usually miss the younger ones (the cute ones, of course) because I don't get home from wor****il after 6 PM and they are usually done Trick or Treating by then.
The constant ringing of the doorbell drives my dog nuts! He barks and gets crazy. If I open the door to give out treats, he tries to run out because of all the kids in strange costumes.
I used to leave a big bowl of candy outside on my porch for the big kids who Trick or Treat late at night. I naively thought that each kid would take a handful of candy and leave some for the other kids. Silly me! One of the kids (probably the first one) would empty the whole bowl in one shot! So no more candy from me!
For the last several Halloween nights, the lights in the house are turned off, the lighted pumpkins on the porch go off, and I go to bed. Fortunately, the light in my doorbell burnt out a long time ago and it's hard to find my doorbell in the dark.
No need for candy in my house!

My friend and I agreed to not have Halloween this year. Usually we decorate the house and I have tons of scary animated decorations. But since I too love Reese's Pumpkins I need to not have the stuff in the house. Some how the bag I bought ended up inside of me, but I'm not buying anymore.
Turn out the lights and hide inside for the night.

I live in a neighborhood of apartment 4-plexes, and in past years I've kept my light off (have to take the bulb out to do that). This year I decided I'm going to leave it on, and be prepared just in case, but I refused to have candy in the house (I could never be trusted with Snickers or Reese's!). I have a feeling trick or treaters are gonna hate me, though...this is what I'm giving out! LOL

I think that's a great choice! I suspect it will help some of the parents have a guilt free halloween, lol

I'm 3.5 years out. before, Halloween would have been weeks of me buying and eating candy, Hallow-month would be more fitting. When the candy dishes went out at work I initially fell for them, but got a grip. Today and tomorrow I will have a few pieces at work.
I don't buy anything to hand out at home, to few kids one through to justify any candy. Plus the knocks at the sends the dog crazy- so lights out for us.

When we are home, I love to get the kids. Their costumes are so cute and we also really decorate the outside of the house so that attracts them too. This year I made sure to buy kinds that I don't really like and that helps me not to be tempted. Then the next day I take all of the leftovers to the office and put them in the pantry.
What will be hard is that we are having a big Halloween party in the afternoon at work. Lots of yummy things. I'm thinking of showing up for a bit at the beginning and then going for a long walk to get away from it.
