RNY'ers: Advice Requested
on 11/1/18 2:30 pm
Hi Kathy - I'm only 8 months out but I'd have to say this is very variable depending on what program you are in. Mine went over many times during their 10 week required class room training; every single one of my RD visits (I had 4 or 5 pre op); they sent me home with a book that I still refer to and they go over it again in my post op visits with the RD (2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and I'll have one next year assuming no issues before then). My insurance also had a program I had to go through but after I went over everything from my 10 week class docs, they passed me through).
I know how frustrating I found the pre-op waiting period, the jumping through all the hoops at the doctor and insurers but I think it was incredibly helpful for adjusting post op. I also didn't have any of the complication that could have occurred, which is different than some of the posters on this thread.

Hello Kathyjs:
I'm sorry you found my question "so upsetting." Your response implies that you think that either I did not recall what I was taught during my pre- and post-op nutrition sessions or that my program neglected to teach me the necessary dietary information.
Perhaps, you were one of the fortunate majority of patients who did not have any complications post-op. If you were, you should be grateful. If not, then I would expect you to be more understanding.
If you took the time to read my question carefully, you might have noted that I have had complications post-RNY since day 1 that have continued for my entire 2 1/2 months post-op. My diet transitions have not been "by the book."
I find this forum primarily comprised of helpful and experienced people who have wisdom to share because of what they have gone through in their WLS journeys.
My questions to them were: (1) what foods did they tolerate easiest when transitioning from full liquids to soft, solid proteins and (2) since I am making this transition in food textures later in my post-op period than typically, should I eat a different amount of food per meal?
These are not things that are routinely taught in pre-op and post-op nutrition sessions.
If you get "so upset" by these kind of posts, why don't you just skip the thread?
By the way, "Shame on who?"
