Anxiety meds?
I'm only 7 months post-op, but yes I have noticed differences. I wasn't able to get my psych meds while in the hospital after surgery (yes I tried, don't even ask!) so when I got home and took them, I immediately got the brain zapping that happens when you first start a med. I was already feeling like crap from a 3 day hospital migraine and didn't need that too.
I was taking 40mg of Prozac and .5 mg of Klonopin each day. After I got home from the hospital after surgery, I went on 20mg of Prozac and .25mg of Klonopin. So I halved the dose. I also had to switch from Prozac capsules to tablets for 3 weeks because I was not able to swallow capsules post surgery.
About 2 months post surgery I started having panic attacks out of nowhere for no reason, and I had nightmares. I attributed it to the long half life of Prozac catching up with me. Things did get better, although I'm generally not as calm and happy as I was before surgery. It goes to show that weight isn't the source of all the problems we may have, and lowering your weight may cure your diabetes but not necessarily your depression or anxiety.
I read another post on this thread about switching from Celexa to Lexapro. My son did that. We didn't find it made much difference in his anxiety, so we added Buspar 15 mg two times a day. It helps turn his anxiety volume down a little. Your medical provider should be able to help you find something that helps.
Hang in there. I hope you find a solution soon.
Is it common to take anxiety meds after surgery? I mean, what % of people who's taken surgery need anxiety pills? This whole situation with pills' prices has blown out of proportion. Saw this comparison chart with canadian prices. I'm not sure it's completely true. But even if it's close to it - that's ludicrous. So, you know, it's not that simple. Anything else - you don't think twice to pick a place to shop. But this is a whole another story. If the medicine you buy isn't proper - it's your health at stake. Finally tried this Canadian Pharmacy. So far so good. What stores do you prefer?
