After surgery, it's very important to STOP treating food (and drink) as a reward, or otherwise using it for emotional reinforcement.

I don't see anything wrong with having a drink to celebrate a milestone. Sorry but we can agree to disagree.

You're about a month post-op, right? I'd be interested to see if other people who are many years post-op think it's a good strategy to use food as a reward. (I doubt it.)

Anybody?

I don't really use food as a reward anymore. No more, "I worked hard today, I deserve it!" No, you really don't deserve it. I'm really glad I don't drink alcohol so I've never had to deal with that question--booze is definitely seen more as a reward (and coping mechanism) than food across just about all social spectrums.

Nope, I am with you.

Food is not a reward.

Nope. 10 years post op.

If anything food or drinks became was as "a pity party" . But then I realized that since I already felt badly, adding alcohol or foods that I normally don't eat, makes me more miserable. The more miserable was because I was adding bad side effects, that would include gaining weight, hangover (it doesn't take a lot of booze to make me feel like crap the day after) or stomach aches (when I ate things that I normally don't for z bety bety good reason - "that food hurts me").

It took me a few years with "I feel like crap" let's eat/drink so I can really feel like I wanted to die, so I start having reality check what "I feel horrible" really means.

Since you seem to know everything, without any real long-term experience, perhaps you shouldn't posit questions at all -- and just start a blog where you detail your month's wisdom?

You're extraordinarily disrespectful to long-term successful veterans who are kindly offering you YEARS of experience.

Good luck with that.

Passing judgement, isn't kinda. Not reading the OP is the problem here. Whether I'm new or not, I will speak my mind. I can post whatever I want. I'm the original poster so if you or anyone else doesn't like my question or my point of view, there is no need to get nasty, just don't comment.

I'm not sure what you consider the milestone of 1 year. That's just time passing not an accomplishment for you.

If you are going to continue to reward yourself with food or drink options (and are planning it 11 months out) consider tying it to being at maintenance not an arbitrary date. Your liver is working hard while you are losing, you may want to consider not stressing it further.
