I've never had a cat that sprayed, either, and can see how challenging that would be! With all those return trips to the shelter, though, he certainly came by his separation anxiety honestly. Poor little Holmes! May he rest in peace.

Oh, Janet, I'm so sorry about Holmes. It is so very hard to lose one of our fur babies. My heart goes out to you and DW.

oh no - I was so hoping it was something they could "fix". I'm so sorry. Losing a pet is so heartbreaking!!

Thanks. He had had gastro problems the whole time he was part of our family and it seems that his kidneys finally gave out. The vet said that we could have taken him to the emergency hospital and they could have rehydrated him and tried to give him a few days or weeks. His renal levels were bad though and it just seemed like it was better to let him go.

I think you made the right decision. Renal failure is always fatal. If they're early into it, you can often keep them going for months or even a year or two if you do subQ fluids, but when it's that late stage, you can only keep them going for so long. Even if you decided to try that, you would have right back where you were a week or two from now. It was inevitable. I'm so sorry to hear that, though. We've lost so many cats and it's just awful - it NEVER gets any easier.
