Eight years out from RNY and have a question

I had my surgery in 2009 and lost 100 lbs and have kept it all off!!!!! No issues, until perhaps now and wondered if anyone else that had theirs a while back has dealt with this.

I am very bloated and gassy and have stomach pain often. I chew Pepcid and take gas x too often lately. I know if I got to a reg family Dr. they will not know if this is related to my surgery. Any suggestions?

Thanks!!!!!!!!

Go to your family doc IMO. It may not be related to surgery. They can surmise what specialist can help you, and at least run I intial tests. (i assume you're no longer followed by a bariatric doc...)

have you evaluated your diet? Maybe something you're used to us now effecting you differently?

For a lot of us, excess gas and bloating are related to things we've been eating. Specifically simple carbs. Try cutting those out, and seeing if it has an effect.

It may be related to things you are eating. Simple carbs can cause that. Also, my doctor says he has seen a large number of us develop food sensitivities and allergies over time especially dairy/milk for some reason. I cut out gluten, dairy and sugar and my pain and bloated, gassy belly is much better. If I eat any of those things, it comes right back. I don't need to eat those things anyway. I'm healthier leaving them off. I did go to my doctor and have tests done initially to rule out anything serious. Then, I had allergy testing. You may want to see your doctor just in case. Hope you get it figured out. Belly pain is no fun.

My RNY was in 2009. Since surgery I've become gluten intolerant and have reactive hypoglycemia - so I've cut out gluten and anything with more than 9 grams of sugar. I also don't eat fried food or fast food.

I have bloating with discomfort after every meal. I sometimes have abdominal pain after eating solid food and need to sit for about 20 minutes and the pain usually subsides. I also chew Super Papaya Enzyme Plus (I get from Amazon) after every meal as they help me to burp and that gets some of the bloating to go away.

I do get heartburn (a different issue) and take PPI's and use liquid antacids and chew Tums for that.

It is just something I live with. Being normal weight and healthier is SO worth limiting my food options.

As everyone else suggested try cutting out carbs, and gluten items one at a time and see if that helps. If not, go see your doctors and they can help you identify what is going on. Keep us updated on how you are doing
