New to the forum. I'm scheduled for Gastric bypass November 13. It's been a long eight month journey to get approval then all this week making the final commitment. My wife is still a little uncertain but supporting my decision. I've been posting on another Bariatric forum with some great posters but this one seems a little more active.

One question is about lifting items after surgery. We are looking at moving soon and I know I can't lift more then ten pounds for 30 days but after that are there any restrictions?

Welcome, GettinSkinnywithit!

I think you will enjoy this forum. There are people at all stages of their WLS journeys who post and can provide helpful advice and suggestions.

I bet you are excited to finally have a surgery date after 8 months! It also took me 8 months to get approval for surgery from my Bariatric Program, which typically is 6-months long. Fortunately, my insurance company didn't hold up the process.

Regarding weight-lifting restrictions, the safest thing to do is to ask your surgeon. What I have seen in post after post is that every surgeon has his/her own specific guidelines and they will also vary from patient to patient.

Well, welcome, again. I hope you join us again soon!

It's all case by case and would depend if you had any problems. Otherwise you're free to lift anything 30 days out.

I'd just like to point out that it may take a while to get your strength back after surgery. So even once you are OK to lift heavier things, you may not have the stamina for physical labour like moving house. I'm four months out, and I can lift things just fine, but I doubt I could handle more than an hour of carrying boxes.
